Two of four people accused of killing Kirsty Theologo were found guilty of murder, attempted murder and assault today.
Linden Wagner and Robin Harwood were found guilty of all three charges by the high court in Johannesburg, sitting in Palm Ridge. They are yet to be sentenced.
Harvey Isha was acquitted of all charges while Courtney Daniels was found guilty of common assault....

Mixed feelings over Theologo verdict 2013-11-07
Johannesburg - Two men were convicted of the satanic murder of Kirsty Theologo on Thursday while a young woman escaped jail, evoking mixed feelings outside court.
A fourth accused, Harvey Isha, was acquitted of all charges.
Linden Wagner and Robin Harwood were found guilty in the high court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court of the assault, murder and attempted murder of Theologo, 18, and her friend who was 14-years-old old at the time....
Wagner had told the court that something had come over him when he attacked his friend Theologo.
He admitted that he had intended to sell his soul that night in return for power but nothing had happened.
He gave a detailed account of how a five-pointed star was drawn at the place where the girls were to be sacrificed. A fire was made and a bible was thrown into it. He and some of his co-accused then cut their hands and dripped their blood into the blaze.
Some of them had planned to eat Theologo’s flesh, drink her blood and burn her body.
Wagner said his and the other ritual partakers souls were meant to be received by the beast referred to in a Bible passage in the book of Revelations....

JOHANNESBURG – Kirsty Theologo’s family on Thursday said while they’re happy two of the four people accused of killing her have been convicted of murder, they’re feeling anxious ahead of sentencing on Friday.
Earlier on Thursday, Lindon Wagner and Robin Harwood were found guilty by the high court sitting at Palm Ridge Magistrates Court of the premeditated murder of the 18-year-old and the attempted murder of her 14-year-old friend, who sustained severe burns in the attack.
Theologo’s mother Sylvia says she’s relieved the trial is almost over and hopes Judge Geraldine Borchers will hand out lengthy sentences to the two convicted killers.
Thursday’s judgment marked the end of the ordeal for co-accused Harvey Isha, who was acquitted of all charges....

Jury finds Jerry Sandusky guilty on dozens of child sex abuse charges

Bellefonte, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was found guilty Friday on 45 of 48 counts related to sexual abuse of boys over a 15-year period.
Jurors delivered the verdict around 10 p.m. after deliberating for about 21 hours. There were convictions related to all 10 sexual abuse victims, with the three not-guilty verdicts applying to three different individuals....
During closing arguments, prosecutors described the ex-Nittany Lions defensive coordinator as a pedophile who preyed on victims using a charity he founded for troubled children, repeatedly abusing young boys in his care.
Sandusky, 68, had pleaded not guilty to the 48 charges of child sex abuse that spanned a 15-year period....
After a week of testimony, during which time witnesses graphically described sexual encounters with Sandusky that they said occurred durijng their boyhoods, jurors made their decision without ever having heard from Sandusky on the witness stand....
Eight young men testified, often in disturbingly graphic detail, of how Sandusky forced them to engage in sexual acts in various places, including showers in the Penn State coaches' locker room, hotel rooms and the basement of his home.
One told jurors that Sandusky -- whom he met, like many of the accusers, through The Second Mile foundation that the ex-coach founded -- had threatened him if he told others about the abuse. Another said Sandusky warned him that he might send him home from a trip to Texas, where they'd gone to watch a Penn State bowl game.

PHILADELPHIA -- A Roman Catholic church official was convicted of child endangerment but acquitted of conspiracy Friday in a landmark clergy-abuse trial, making him the first U.S. church official branded a felon for covering up abuse claims.
Monsignor William Lynn helped the archdiocese keep predators in ministry, and the public in the dark, by telling parishes their priests were being removed for health reasons and then sending the men to unsuspecting churches, prosecutors said.
Lynn, 61, served as secretary for clergy from 1992 to 2004, mostly under Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua....
Lynn had faced about 10 to 20 years in prison if convicted of all three counts he faced – conspiracy and two counts of child endangerment. He was convicted of only a single endangerment count, which carries a possible 3 1/2- to seven-year prison term.
The jury could not reach a verdict for Lynn's co-defendant, the Rev. James Brennan, who was accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy in 1999.
Despite Lynn's acquittal on the conspiracy charge, the trial exposed how deeply involved the late cardinal was in dealing with accused priests.
Bevilacqua had the final say on what to do with priests accused of abuse, transferred many of them to new parishes and dressed down anyone who complained, according to testimony. He also ordered the shredding of a 1994 list that Lynn prepared, warning that the archdiocese had three diagnosed pedophiles, a dozen confirmed predators and another 20 possible abusers in its midst.
Church lawyers turned over a surviving copy of the list days after Bevilacqua died....
With the verdict, after 13 days of deliberations, jurors concluded that prosecutors failed to show that Lynn was part of a conspiracy to move predator priests around.

Ernest Willis, a 52-year-old New Hampshire man, was found guilty of raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl from his church who was shipped to Colorado by church leaders to give birth to his baby. Willis faces up to 54 years in prison for the sexual assault, The Denver Post reports. Willis will be sentenced Tuesday in Merrimack Superior Court.

The Associated Press reports that Ernest Willis was sentenced Tuesday to 15 to 30 years in prison for raping Tina Anderson twice in 1997. Judge Larry Smukler said that Willis "robbed the girl of her childhood." But Willis was stoic and although he said he was "sorry and ashamed for this thoughtless act of sexual misconduct," he never admitted to forcible rape or to a second rape. Willis' lawyers said they are planning to appeal those convictions.

Tina Anderson, who was 15 at the time of the rape, knew Willis from babysitting his children and from attending the same fundamentalist Baptist church in Concord, N.H.. The church pastor made young Anderson apologize to the congregation when she discovered that she was pregnant, but she was not allowed to tell the church goers that the pregnancy occurred because she was raped. With the consent of Anderson’s mother, the pastor then shipped the teenager to the home of a Colorado couple that she didn’t know and arranged for her baby to be adopted, according to ABC News.

Ernest Willis, a New Hampshire man accused of raping and fathering a child with a 15-year-old girl from his church in 1997, was found guilty today of three counts of forcible rape and a count of felonious sexual assault.
Willis' case drew national headlines because his victim, Tina Anderson, who gave an exclusive interview to "20/20" last month, said she was forced to confess her "sin" -- the pregnancy -- in front of their congregation at Trinity Baptist Church, an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church (IFB) in Concord, N.H. The church's then-pastor, Chuck Phelps, helped arrange for Anderson to move thousands of miles away from home to live with an IFB family and give her child up for adoption....
In an April interview with "20/20," Anderson said that after being sexually assaulted twice by Willis, she was forced to stand before her Baptist congregation and confess her "sin" -- that she had become pregnant. She said she wasn't allowed to tell the group that the pregnancy happened because she was raped by Willis, a man twice her age.

JONESBORO — For perhaps the first time in U.S. judicial history a death row inmate was allowed to plead guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and immediately leave the courtroom a free man.
It happened Friday morning in a Craighead County courtroom when Damien Echols, along with his cohorts, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr., pleaded guilty to killing three West Memphis youths on May 5, 1993. At the same time, the men professed to the court that they were innocent, using an arcane legal device known as an Alford plea....
Scott Ellington, prosecuting attorney for the 2nd Judicial District. “I feel comfortable we made the right decision,” Ellington told The Jonesboro Sun on Monday. “At the end of the day we’ve got three guilty pleas in the deaths of three dead children.”
....At that point the prosecution would charge Echols and Baldwin with three counts of first-degree murder, while Misskelley would be charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder.
The men were originally charged with capital murder.
The defendants would then enter Alford pleas. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the 1970s that a defendant can enter a plea in which he admits there is enough evidence to possibly convict him, but at the same time he doesn’t have to admit guilt.
....A knife prosecutors said was potentially used to emasculate Byers was found behind Baldwin’s home, and fibers collected from the victims might have matched fibers in Baldwin and Echols’ homes.

Gov. Mike Beebe said Tuesday that he did not plan to grant pardons in the “West Memphis Three” case unless evidence showed that someone else was to blame for the murders of three young boys in 1993.
The three men who were convicted, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr., now have 10 years of what amounts to unsupervised probation after being released from custody on Friday in a swiftly arranged plea deal. Mr. Beebe said he did not consider pardons until all sentences were completed, and his term will have expired long before the probation ends. After an HBO documentary detailed their case in 1996, the men garnered celebrity support and hefty donations.
The original murder convictions were set aside amid doubts about the evidence. The three pleaded guilty to lesser charges on Friday in exchange for sentences of the 18 years that they had already served. As part of an Alford plea, the men were allowed to maintain their claims of innocence. Scott Ellington, a prosecutor, said he did not expect that proof would be found of anyone else’s involvement.
“The state believes that this case is concluded by the convictions of the three individuals who committed these heinous murders,” he said.

A Delaware pediatrician was found guilty Thursday of raping and abusing his child patients.
Earl Bradley, 58, accused of raping or assaulting more than 100 girls he treated, was convicted of all 24 counts of rape, assault and sexual exploitation that he faced in Sussex Superior Court here.
The verdict was expected: Evidence of the attacks included videos that he recorded and Bradley's lawyers did not mount any defense. Instead, they are expected to appeal an earlier ruling from Judge William Carpenter Jr. that 13 hours of videos seized from Bradley's office was admissible.
A state police detective who viewed the videos said during the trial that Bradley used mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on a few girls who were "ashen gray" from choking and suffocation after he forced them to perform oral sex on him.
The videos also show children in diapers screaming as they attempt in vain to escape from their doctor before he rapes them in an outbuilding at his office where he took children for candy and toys. In one case at his home, a video shows Bradley using nitrous oxide to keep a sleeping 7-year-old girl sedate during his attack, police testified.

Bishop Raymond Lahey was stopped at Ottawa Airport after border guards found 588 images and dozens of videos of naked boys as young as eight on his computer and phone. Lahey, who is facing a mandatory 12-month minimum prison term, voluntarily entered custody today. The images and videos will be viewed by the judge in private before official sentencing.
In addition to the criminal charges, Lahey also faces accusations in a civil suit of sexually abusing an orphanage resident in the early 1980s.
The Mount Cashel Orphanage in St. John's, Newfoundland was closed in 1990 after it was revealed that staff had systematically abused some 300 residents over several decades.

Lahey, who is facing a mandatory 12-month minimum prison term, voluntarily entered custody today. The images and videos will be viewed by the judge in private before official sentencing.
In addition to the criminal charges, Lahey also faces accusations in a civil suit of sexually abusing an orphanage resident in the early 1980s.
The Mount Cashel Orphanage in St. John's, Newfoundland was closed in 1990 after it was revealed that staff had systematically abused some 300 residents over several decades.

Five found guilty in sex cult trial By Robin Turner, WalesOnline Mar 9 2011 The jury in the trial of five people accused of using a black magic influenced cult to sexually abuse children and young adults in Carmarthenshire has found five defendents guilty of 39 serious sex offences. At Swansea Crown Court, alleged cult leader Colin Batley, 48, was found guilty of 27 offences - including rape, buggery, indecency with children and causing prostitution. His wife, Elaine Batley, 47, was convicted of 5 offences, incuding indececy with a child and indecent assault. Shelly Millar, 35, was convicted of two counts of indecency with children. Jackie Marling, Batley's lover, was convicted of five offences - including aiding and abeiting rape and indecency with a child. Peter Murphy QC, prosecuting, has alleged the four established their own religion - which preached free sex and was influenced by notorious English occultist Aleister Crowley.

....As residents went about their daily life, they could not have imagined that Colin Batley, described as an "evil paedophile", was running a satanic sex cult from his home. The self-styled high priest of the group, headed a paedophile ring run like a "quasi-religion".
One victim, who was repeatedly abused by Batley, told how he treated women like slaves. Batley would wear a hood to abuse his victims.
Once in their grasp, he would call the children to his service by clicking his fingers...."It boils down to two words, shock and dismay," says Geraint Thomas, Kidwelly Town Council town clerk.
"We didn't realise anything untoward was happening in Kidwelly at the time. "It wasn't until we read it in the paper that this unfortunate incident was occurring and the publicity we're getting isn't helping Kidwelly at the moment."

A PERVERTED woman care worker faced a long jail sentence last night after she was found guilty of involvement in one of Britain's worst child-sex rings. Tracy Dawber gasped "Oh, no!" as she was found guilty of sexually assaulting a five-month-old baby while ringleader Colin Blanchard took photographs. As a jury found her guilty of five related charges, the 44-year-old started crying and shaking.
Dawber, a grandmother, was the fourth female member of Blanchard's paedophile network to be convicted of "sickening" offences against children....Blanchard, 40, who has admitted 19 child-sex charges, gave evidence against her, accusing her of taking the lead. Police searched her desktop computer and discovered word searches including "pre-teen", "Lolita" and a file containing 50 stories on incest. The pair started a relationship after meeting on the internet....
Crown Prosecution Service lawyer Ann Reddrop said: "Colin Blanchard turned out to be an evil man who controlled four women in one of the most sickening paedophile rings this country has seen. "He encouraged these women to take and share ever more horrific images of the sexual abuse of children. As if that was not bad enough, he encouraged them to physically abuse children to produce those pictures." Detectives investigated Blanchard's network after Greater Manchester Police found images of child abuse on his computer.
