Arrest in investigation into abuse in North Wales care

Police investigating historical cases of child abuse in the North Wales care system made their 14th arrest.

A 60-year-old man from Oswestry in Shropshire was detained for questioning on suspicion of a number of cases of child cruelty.

The offences are alleged to have taken place against three boys between 1978 and 1984, when they were aged between 15 and 16....

McNeil: Home probe to proceed

An inquiry into alleged historical abuse at the Nova Scotia Home for Colored Children should start in the spring, but Premier Stephen McNeil is less definite about his new government’s position on court action by former residents.

McNeil had called for a public inquiry for months, and he made it an election promise. After his first official cabinet meeting Thursday, he said he’s hoping that the terms of reference will be set by the end of the year.

He said the government would then allow the inquiry to happen through the spring....
