By Richard Spillett 5 December 2014
A DJ friend of Jimmy Savile has been convicted of a catalogue of historical sex offences against 'star-struck' girls as young as 13.

Ex-Radio Caroline DJ Ray Teret, 73, used his celebrity status in the Manchester club scene in the 1960s and 1970s to prey on many of his victims.

Teret - known as 'Ugli Ray' - was mentored by Savile in the early days of his career and was described as following him around 'like a shadow', Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

Teret, of Altrincham, Greater Manchester, told the jury he had no interest in underage girls, despite a previous conviction for sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl in 1999, an offence he continues to deny.

He denied 18 rapes, two other serious sexual assaults, one attempted rape, 12 indecent assaults and one count of indecency with a child.

After more 60 hours of deliberations, he was convicted of seven rapes and 11 indecent assaults. He was cleared of the other charges....

Pennsylvania High Court Won’t Hear Sandusky Appeal, Dobsonville satanic murder case postponed, Alleged cult leader faces multiple raps, 3 Cognitive Strategies That Deny, Discount, & Dismiss Torture: How Individuals, Groups, Governments, & Cultures Enable Torturers

Pennsylvania High Court Won’t Hear Sandusky Appeal
AP / Mark Scolforo  4/2/14

(HARRISBURG, Pa.) — Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky’s child molestation conviction will not be reviewed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, under an order issued Wednesday.

Sandusky asked the court to take up his 45-count conviction, arguing his lawyers were rushed too quickly to trial in 2012 and that prosecutors improperly made reference to his decision not to testify.

He also said the trial judge should have issued a jury instruction about how long it took his victims to report the abuse and that jurors should not have been told to weigh evidence of his good character against all other evidence.

The state attorney general’s office had countered that Sandusky did not provide sufficient basis for the Supreme Court to take up the matter, and that decisions made by the trial judge did not violate his rights.

Sandusky, 70, is serving a 30- to 60-year prison sentence for sexual abuse of 10 boys. His lawyer said he is disappointed the court denied his appeal.

Eight of his victims testified at trial, describing a range of abuse from grooming and fondling to oral and anal sex, including attacks in the basement of Sandusky’s home outside State College. Another witness, a graduate assistant for the team who had been a quarterback for the Nittany Lions, testified he saw Sandusky having sexual contact with a boy inside a team shower late on a Friday night....

Dobsonville satanic murder case postponed
Masego Rahlaga 3/27/14
JOHANNESBURG - The case against two boys accused of killing two teenage girls in an apparent satanic ritual in Soweto has been postponed in the Protea Magistrates Court.

The delay has been granted to allow the state time to make copies of the dockets and hand them over to the defence.

The boys, aged 15 and 16, are accused of killing 15-year-old Thandeka Moganetsi and 16-year-old Cwayita Rathazwayo whose bodies were discovered in a veld in the Dobsonville area last month.

Burnt black candles and razor blades were found at the murder scene.

The police's Kay Makhubela said, “The case was postponed to 7 April after the legal representatives requested copies and the investigation continues.”

Holy Hell - one family's story of sexual abuse by their priest, Artist Graham Ovenden accused of being paedophile, Sandusky speaks from prison, Satanic sex cult paedophile guilty, Ritual abuse laws

Holy Hell - one family's story of sexual abuse by their priest
By Carol Duncan (ABC Local Radio) 26 March, 2013

When senior NSW Police Detective Chief Inspector Peter Fox told ABC TV's Lateline programme that the Catholic Church had covered up crimes by paedophile priests, silenced investigations and destroyed evidence to avoid prosecution - the public outrage triggered a Royal Commission into institutional child abuse. One of the stories that led to this is that of Patricia Feenan's son, Daniel, a 14-year-old altar boy when first raped by a priest in the Newcastle/Maitland diocese....

Patricia Feenan says that one of the problems with the media coverage was that there no reporting of the 'culture of grooming' and that discussing it, educating people about it means they're more aware but also hopefully more likely to tell someone and to seek help.

"The reaction I've had from many people, and many victims who are positive and thankful, means I know I've helped people. One man wrote that he'd never disclosed his abuse but he read the book and gave it to his mother, telling her 'This is what happened to me.'

Sadly, Patricia fears that sexual abuse by the clergy continues, and will continue.

"We hear that it's historical, and I'll concede that the church is trying very hard now with protocols put in place to deal with victims who come forward now, but when they say it's historical, that's true the offence was historical, but the impact is with us every day, and it's certainly with my son every day of his life. If people understand that more, maybe they can walk some of the journey. Emotional support is what victims want, not ostracisization."... http://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/2013/03/26/3723929.htm

Artist Graham Ovenden accused of being paedophile
Graham Ovenden Graham Ovenden denies the charges 11 March 2013

An internationally-acclaimed artist has been described in court as a paedophile who blindfolded girls and committed indecent acts.

Graham Ovenden, 70 - who has had work hung at the Tate Gallery - is accused of sexually abusing children in London and Cornwall. Truro Crown Court heard Mr Ovenden's "target of abuse was young girls."

He denies nine charges of indecency with a child and indecent assault on victims aged between six and 14. When he was arrested over the alleged abuse of one of the girls, Mr Ovenden admitted he had taken photographs of her - a few of them being "nudies", the court was told. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-21745915

Sandusky speaks from prison: Witness's 'story changed a lot'
By Mark Morgenstein, CNN  Mon March 25, 2013

Jerry Sandusky has been interviewed for the first time since going to prison in October. Documentary filmmaker John Ziegler shares the convicted pedophile's comments on Joe Paterno, and on the prosecution's key witness, with Piers Morgan, at 9 p.m. ET Monday on CNN.

(CNN) -- Jerry Sandusky will probably be incarcerated for the rest of his life for child sex abuse convictions, but the former Penn State assistant football coach is making sure he has his say outside the prison walls.

Documentary filmmaker John Ziegler interviewed Sandusky, 68, for a project he calls "The Framing of Joe Paterno." On Monday, NBC's "Today" show aired a portion of a phone conversation between the two men.

In the broadcast excerpts, Sandusky questioned the credibility of prosecution witness Mike McQueary, another former Penn State assistant coach, who testified that he walked in on Sandusky raping a child in the showers at a school facility.

"I think there's a lot of things that transpired. I think these investigators, the way they went about business, you know, his story changed a lot. I think he said some things, and then it escalated on him," Sandusky said. "I don't understand how anybody would have walked into that locker room from where he was and heard sounds associated that was sex going on. (laughter) You know, like he said that could've been, I mean, there was ... that would have been the last thing I would have thought about. I would've thought maybe fooling around or something like that. (laughter)"

Sandusky also discussed what Joe Paterno, the legendary Penn State head coach who was forced out as a result of the scandal, knew -- or didn't know.

"If he absolutely thought I was (a pedophile), I'd say no. If he had a suspicion, I don't know the answer to that," Sandusky said....

Sandusky, victims plan to speak at sentencing, Survivor Conference Presentations Online

Sandusky, victims plan to speak at sentencing
By MARK SCOLFORO | Associated Press 10/8/12

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) — Jerry Sandusky and at least some of his victims plan to address the judge at his sentencing, a proceeding that may last less than two hours, lawyers said after a closed-door meeting to iron out logistics ahead of the Tuesday hearing. Sandusky lawyer Joe Amendola said "it's as certain as certain can be" that the former Penn State assistant football coach will speak to Judge John Cleland and assert his innocence before he is sentenced on 45 counts of child sexual abuse....

Given the number of charges, the serious nature of his crimes and his age, the 68-year-old Sandusky faces the likelihood of a sentence that will send him to state prison for the rest of his life. Sandusky was convicted in June of abusing 10 boys over 15 years, including some attacks inside Penn State athletic facilities....

Lead prosecutor Joe McGettigan said as many as a half-dozen victims are expected to be heard. The eight victims who testified against Sandusky at trial described abuse that ranged from grooming and fondling to oral and anal sex. Sandusky did not take the stand but gave interviews shortly after his arrest in which he declared he was not guilty....

Sandusky Victim No. 1 to reveal his identity in new book

Sandusky Victim No. 1 to reveal his identity in new book

Sandusky Victim No. 1: The book, to be released Oct. 23, will be titled "Silent No More: Victim No. 1's Fight for Justice Against Jerry Sandusky."  The book "will share how he survived years of shame and secrecy, harassment," says the publisher.

By Hillel Italie, Associated Press / September 28, 2012

A key witness in the child sex abuse trial of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, known in court papers as Victim No. 1, has a book deal and will soon reveal his identity, a publisher announced Thursday.

The case rocked one of the country's most storied college sports programs and led to Sandusky's conviction in June on 45 counts of child sexual abuse of several victims. Sandusky is scheduled to be sentenced next month and is likely to receive a sentence that will keep him in prison for life.

Ballantine Bantam Dell said "Silent No More: Victim No. 1's Fight for Justice Against Jerry Sandusky," will come out Oct. 23.

The memoir will be co-written by the victim's mother and psychologist and "will share how he survived years of shame and secrecy, harassment and accusation, before reporting Sandusky's actions to the authorities, and will offer a hopeful and inspiring message for victims of abuse," Ballantine said.

Sandusky Fits Sex Predator Profile, Report Says, Father Benedict Groeschel, American Friar, Claims Teens Seduce Priests In Some Sex Abuse Cases

Sandusky Fits Sex Predator Profile, Report Says
By MARK SCOLFORO 08/30/12

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky has been recommended for designation as a sexually violent predator, a legal status that would require lifetime registration with authorities, according to a person who has read an assessment board's report to a judge in the case.

The recommendation from the Sexual Offenders Assessment Board was disclosed to The Associated Press on Thursday by the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the report's confidential nature....

Father Benedict Groeschel, American Friar, Claims Teens Seduce Priests In Some Sex Abuse Cases   The Huffington Post   By Meredith Bennett-Smith 08/29/2012

In a recent interview with the National Catholic Register, Father Benedict Groeschel, of the conservative Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, said that teens act as seducers in some sexual abuse cases involving priests....

In an interview with the National Catholic Register posted this week, Groeschel was asked about his work with the very conservative Friars of the Renewal, a breakaway order he founded 25 years ago. The conversation took an interesting turn, however, when the editor asked about the 78-year-old's work with sexual abuse perpetrators.

"People have this picture in their minds of a person planning to — a psychopath," Groeschel said. "But that’s not the case. Suppose you have a man having a nervous breakdown, and a youngster comes after him. A lot of the cases, the youngster — 14, 16, 18 — is the seducer."

Pressed for clarification, the New York State-based religious leader explained that kids looking for father figures might be drawn to priests to fill an emotional hole in their lives.

Furthermore, Groeschel expressed a belief that most of these "relationships" are heterosexual in nature, and that historically sexual relationships between men and boys have not been thought of as crimes.

"If you go back 10 or 15 years ago with different sexual difficulties — except for rape or violence — it was very rarely brought as a civil crime. Nobody thought of it that way... And I’m inclined to think, on [a priest's] first offense, they should not go to jail because their intention was not committing a crime."

The fact that the interview was published, without comment, in the National Catholic Register was significant due to the publication's affiliation with disgraced Legion of Christ religious order.

In 1995 the legion was part of a group of investors who saved the National Catholic Register from closing. (The Legion later sold the paper, which is now owned by the Eternal World Television Network.)The powerful clerical order was also part of one of the most damaging scandals, involving its one-time leader, the Rev. Marcial Maciel, the highest-profile Catholic clergyman ever to be accused of sexual abuse, according to Time magazine....

Groeschel is an influential voice in the American Dioceses and continues to maintain a high-profile in the church, writing several books and appearing weekly on a religious television network....

Update: National Catholic Register has taken down the interview and Groeschel has offered this statement:

I apologize for my comments. I did not intend to blame the victim. A priest (or anyone else) who abuses a minor is always wrong and is always responsible. My mind and my way of expressing myself are not as clear as they used to be. I have spent my life trying to help others the best that I could. I deeply regret any harm I have caused to anyone.

Three men say they were abused by Jerry Sandusky in '70s or '80s, Assault: Children With Disabilities Are More Likely to Be Victims of Violence, Analysis Shows

Three men say they were abused by Jerry Sandusky in '70s or '80s
By NBC News staff 7/16/12

Three men have told police they were abused by Jerry Sandusky in the 1970s or 1980s, according to a local report Monday.

Sources close the Sandusky case say they are the first people to allege abuse before the 1990s by the 68-year-old convicted pedophile, The Patriot-News reported.

In the early 1970s when one of the men said he was abused, the former Penn State assistant football coach would have been in his late 20s.

Sandusky was convicted in June on 45 counts of child sex abuse against 10 victims. As the case unfolded, more alleged victims came forward – including Sandusky's adopted son – to say they were also abused.

Assault: Children With Disabilities Are More Likely to Be Victims of Violence, Analysis Shows

By DONALD G. McNEIL Jr.  July 16, 2012

Children with disabilities are almost four times more likely to be victims of violence than other children, according to a new report commissioned by the World Health Organization.

The report, published in The Lancet on Thursday, found that disabled children were 3.6 times more likely to be physically assaulted and 2.9 times more likely to be sexually assaulted.

The most common victims of sexual assault were those with mental illness or retardation, and institutionalized children were attacked more often than those living at home.

Last week’s report was a meta-analysis of 17 other studies that collectively gathered evidence on 18,374 children, all of them living in wealthy countries, from the United States to Europe to Israel. About 3 percent of children in rich countries and up to 6 percent in poor ones have disabilities.

“Physical violence” included threats and spanking that left marks on the skin. A study published about 10 years ago estimated that 53,000 children under age 18 are murdered each year. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/17/health/policy/children-with-disabilities-are-victimized-more-often.html

Three decades have passed since the UN declared 1981 as the International Year of Disabled Persons. The theme of the commemoration was “full participation and equality”. Progress towards this goal has been sadly deficient as evidence suggests that individuals with disabilities experience exceptionally high levels of violence. http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736%2812%2960077-4/fulltext

Sandusky inquiry remains very active, Survivorship Webinar “From Fragmentation to Integration”

Sandusky inquiry remains 'very active'
By Kevin Johnson, USA TODAY 7/13/12

Pennsylvania prosecutors are developing "new information" in their continuing investigation into former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky and how the university handled the initial allegations against the now-convicted pedophile, a spokesman for the state attorney general said Friday.

Nils Frederiksen, a spokesman for Attorney General Linda Kelly, described the inquiry as "very active" after Thursday's release of a scathing internal investigation of the university headed by Louis Freeh. The former FBI director found that top Penn State officials concealed information related to Sandusky's abuse of children dating back to 1998.

Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts of child sexual abuse last month and is in a central Pennsylvania jail awaiting formal sentencing.

Some of the information being reviewed by prosecutors, according to court documents filed in a Harrisburg court last month, are e-mails and other correspondence that reference an incident in 1998 in which Sandusky was accused of sexually abusing a boy in a university shower-room. The correspondence, which references communication involving university President Graham Spanier, Athletic Director Tim Curley, now on leave, retired university vice president Gary Schultz and head football coach Joe Paterno, was only recently turned over to prosecutors, according to court papers.

Some of the information was turned over to prosecutors by investigators working for Freeh. The cache includes e-mail references to Paterno's apparent knowledge of the incident in 1998. That information was not available to prosecutors when Paterno told a grand jury he was not aware of any allegations of misconduct involving Sandusky apart from an incident in 2001, when Paterno was told by football assistant Michael McQueary that Sandusky was involved in sexual activity with a young boy in a university shower-room....

Frederiksen declined to elaborate on the focus of the criminal inquiry, but he said Freeh's report "reinforces our findings that there was an effort by top administrators at Penn State to conceal the truth."....

Attorneys for Spanier, Curley and Schultz have challenged Freeh's report, saying their clients did not conceal information about Sandusky's activities. Paterno's son, Jay, said Freeh's conclusions were based on "incomplete information." "Joe did not cover up for Jerry Sandusky or conceal information," the son said.

Survivorship Webinar “From Fragmentation to Integration” Dr. Cathy Kezelman Saturday, June 16 3 pm Pacific Time -

This webinar will depict my personal psychotherapeutic journey to explore the process of recovery from an extreme dissociative state, which was characterised by a complete amnesia for 10 years of my childhood and fragmentation of my self onto integration and recovery. Despite my therapist providing a safe reliable and contained space it took me a long time to trust her or appreciate that she could keep me in mind. She was empathic, compassionate and skilled and the relationship we developed was core to my survival and my recovery. Over years she bore witness to the dissociated fragments of trauma returning to my consciousness and the intense emotions which were overwhelming me. Through a committed analytical psychotherapeutic process she guided me from terror and confusion through chaos and onto acceptance and understanding.

Jerry Sandusky Juror Joshua Harper Discusses Deliberations While Victims' Families Talk, Pediatrician Pleads Guilty To Child P_rn Charge

Jerry Sandusky Juror Joshua Harper Discusses Deliberations While Victims' Families Talk 06/25/2012

....Victims' families and members of the jury have come forward to talk more about the monumental verdict that -- if it holds up despite an expected appeal -- will likely lead to a sentence of more than 400 years for Sandusky.

....The two-week trial was emotionally wrenching for some of the jury's five men and seven women, including one who appeared to cry Friday night.

But one juror described the satisfaction that came from convicting a predator who abused disadvantaged boys for years.

“It feels good to expose something that was covered up,” said Joshua Harper, 31, a Penn State alumnus, according to the Washington Post. “It’s a statement that there needs to be accountability and change. It’s the beginning of our time to heal.”

Sandusky's lack of outward emotion as the verdict was read convinced Harper that the jury reached the right conclusion.

"That was just confirmation again," Harper told NBC's Today show. "You know I looked at him during the reading of the verdict, and just the look on his face, no real emotion, just kind of accepting, you know, because he knew it was true." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/25/jerry-sandusky-juror-josh_n_1625166.html

Todd Parrilla, Pediatrician, Pleads Guilty To Child Porn Charge

HARTFORD, Conn. 06/25/12

A Connecticut pediatrician has admitted that he possessed more than 100,000 images and videos of child pornography, federal authorities said Monday

The U.S. Attorney's office said 48-year-old Todd Parrilla of Stonington pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Hartford to receipt and distribution of child pornography. Parrilla had a pediatric practice in southeastern Connecticut.

"This defendant possessed and distributed tens of thousands of images and videos portraying the sexual abuse of children," said U.S. Attorney David Fein. "This is a heinous crime. That it was committed by a pediatrician, whose profession is committed to the well-being of children, makes it especially disturbing." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/25/todd-parrilla-pediatrician-child-porn_n_1625197.html

Jerry Sandusky's adopted son, Matt Sandusky, said through his attorney today that he met with prosecutors this week to say for the first time that he is a molestation victim of his adoptive father, the Harrisburg (Pa.) Patriot-News reported .

Matt Sandusky, 33, was adopted as an adult by the former Penn State assistant football coach and his wife, Dottie, after having lived with the family as a foster child. He had denied ever being abused by his adopted father until now, according to the report....

In March, The Patriot-News reported that Matt Sandusky had a rocky relationship with his adopted father. His biological mother, Debra Long, told the newspaper that she believed Sandusky had stolen her son from her.

She testified before the grand jury in early 2011 about strange behavior she says she witnessed between her son and Sandusky, the newspaper added. Matt Sandusky testified to the grand jury, too. But Jerry Sandusky’s attorney, Joe Amendola, said at the time that he was not worried about Matt’s testimony, and that Long was making false allegations because she was angry at the Sandusky family.

During testimony at trial, Victim 4 told jurors that on one occasion when Jerry Sandusky began touching him during a shower, Matt Sandusky was present but left the shower when the assault began. http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2012-06-21/jerry-sandusky-adopted-son-matt-sandusky-accuses-molested-first-time?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtml

Charity's Insurer Need Not Cover, But May Have to Pay to Defend, Sandusky

With jury selection under way this week in the criminal child sex-abuse trial of Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant football coach suffered a setback in federal court when a judge ruled that the insurance company from which he was seeking coverage is not responsible for indemnifying him for damages that may arise from the allegations.

U.S. District Chief Judge Yvette Kane of the Middle District of Pennsylvania also discussed whether or not Federal Insurance Co. would be obligated to pay for Sandusky's defense, but deferred answering the question until discovery provides a factual record.

On Dec. 16, Sandusky informed the company that insures the nonprofit organization that he started 35 years ago to help "at-risk" youth that he would be seeking coverage from its policy. The organization, The Second Mile, announced last month that it planned to transfer its assets and programs to a similar nonprofit, called Arrow, because after the allegations against Sandusky, "there would not be adequate support, including financial, from donors, volunteers and referring social service agencies to continue The Second Mile as its own entity." http://www.law.com/jsp/pa/PubArticlePA.jsp?id=1202557357820&Charitys_Insurer_Need_Not_Cover_But_May_Have_to_Pay_to_Defend_Sandusky

Month-long ICE crackdown nets 190 child porn suspects; 18 victims rescued  6/8/12
By Kari Huus, msnbc.com

Federal agents targeting child pornography offenses say they arrested 190 people in May and rescued 18 children who were being victimized by the accused perpetrators, in a stepped-up focus on these crimes. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, which investigates a wide range of crimes that cross state or national borders, is one of the main federal agencies — along with the FBI — to handle child porn and exploitation investigations....

The 190 arrests in May represented a  “significant number” for one month, Bennett said. ICE arrested 1,455 suspected child predators in the 2011 fiscal year, which ended on Sept. 30, 2011, she said, up from 922 a year earlier.

Typically, she said, ICE is responsible for more than half of the federal cases involving child sexual exploitation.

In 2011, Bennett said, agency investigations resulted in 915 convictions on child porn-related charges with sentences ranging from a few years to life in prison, depending on the severity of the offense and the age of the victim — who are sometimes as young as infants. http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/08/12125265-month-long-ice-crackdown-nets-190-child-porn-suspects-18-victims-rescued

Mother of Jerry Sandusky’s grandchildren aims to bar him from visitation

The mother of three of Jerry Sandusky’s grandchildren is vowing to fight to bar the former Penn State assistant football coach from having access to her children while he awaits trial on child sex abuse charges.

In a statement sent to reporters hours after a judge approved visits between Sandusky and his 11 other grandchildren on Monday, former daughter-in-law Jill Thomas said psychologists who had treated her 5-year-old son "could not rule out that Jerry Sandusky was grooming him for sexual abuse."

Thomas, 29, is currently involved in a custody dispute with her former husband, Sandusky’s son, Matt.

Judge John M. Cleland, who issued the pretrial order involving the other children, opted to leave any decisions involving Thomas’ youngsters to the judge presiding over her custody case. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/college/football/view.bg?articleid=1403798

Insurer for Sandusky-founded charity asks court to rule against it having to pay for lawsuits

Insurer for Sandusky-founded charity asks court to rule against it having to pay for lawsuits

By Associated Press, Friday, December 23, 2011

HARRISBURG, Pa. — An insurance company for a charity founded by Jerry Sandusky argued in a federal complaint Friday that it should not have to pay legal expenses or claims for the former Penn State assistant football coach now accused of molesting children.

Federal Insurance Co. said it would be wrong for the company to have to cover Sandusky because he is accused of conduct that did not involve his position as an executive or employee of The Second Mile, a charity for at-risk youth he founded in 1977.

In addition, “Pennsylvania courts have found that a person who sexually abuses a minor should not expect his insurer to cover his misconduct, particularly where the average insured purchasing insurance would cringe at the very suggestion that he was paying for coverage arising out of sexual abuse of a child,” lawyers for the New Jersey-based company wrote.

Sandusky is charged with sexually abusing 10 boys over more than a decade. He has denied the allegations and is awaiting trial in Centre County after waiving a preliminary hearing earlier this month.
