Brian Hubner, acquisitions and access archivist with the University of Manitoba, is pictured with material from the fonds of Lynne Moss Sharman, an activist and social worker.

In trying to comprehend violence against women, child abuse and social injustice, one woman’s archival collection may help communities gain greater insight.

The University of Manitoba’s Archives and Special Collections recently acquired the clippings, photographs, journals, and documents compiled by Lynne Moss Sharman dating back to the 1970s and gathered over the past three decades.

The fonds explore topics ranging from missing and murdered Indigenous women, child abuse and foster care, prison deaths, and community action on issues.

According to Brian Hubner, acquisitions and access archivist with the university, the impetus for Sharman’s documentation began with her research into mind control experiments and abuse performed on children. Sharman claimed to be a survivor of experiments and government-sanctioned child abuse. She died in March 2014 at the age of 66.

"She was initially interested in medical experiments," Hubner said. "Cold War medical experiments were done on her as a child and she was able to prove that. She reached out to other people who were victims of that, and that was really the origin of her research and her collecting."

Sharman, an activist, social worker and artist from Thunder Bay, Ont., used the collection as a research bank of material, Hubner said. Sharman carefully curated the collection, with sections of the archive focused on the Pickton trials, the Highway of Tears, individual cases of missing and murdered women, and the media coverage that framed it all. The Stone Angels was formed in Thunder Bay in 1993. I had been in therapy myself for quite a long time, and began to come in contact with other survivors of cult ritual abuse at that point, and was able to speak with over sixty adult survivors of ritual cult abuse. Many of them are from Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario, but a great number of them had moved here from other cities in the country. There was a great need to begin asking for services to be provided for survivors, and we began producing The Stone Angels Journal in 1993 with Volume 1 of survivors' writings and drawings, and I have just been working on completing Volume 6b on Mind Control In The Modern Age. We essentially began bringing cult ritual abuse to light and that progressed, as we began to hear more from survivors, into the dialogue about the mind control experimentation that had in fact been going on all over the country.

As her journey continues, we discover that her father is part of a much broader demographic, and that the story is one that affects us all.

Through interviews with media luminaries, cognitive linguists, grassroots activist groups such as: Noam Chomsky, Steve Rendall, Jeff Cohen, Eric Boehlert, George Lakoff, STOP RUSH, HearYourselfThink, Claire Conner and others, “Brainwashing” unravels the plan to shift the country to the Right over the last 30 years, largely through media manipulation.

The result has lead to fewer voices, less diversity of opinion, massive intentional misinformation and greater division of our country.

This documentary will shine a light on how it happened (and is still happening) and lead to questions about who owns the airwaves, what rights we have as listeners/watchers and what responsibility does our government have to keep the airwaves truly fair, accurate and accountable to the truth.

McKim - Globe Staff - October 10, 2010 It was one of the biggest child prostitution cases in state history, culminating last year in the conviction of six Boston pimps involved in a violent prostitution ring that enslaved girls from local neighborhoods....The case covered incidents that happened between 2001 and 2005, but the sexual exploitation of children for commercial gain remains a pervasive problem. In fact, advocates and authorities say it has grown more insidious in recent years. Street corners and alleys have been largely replaced by smartphones and websites, making it easier for solicitations and payments to take place out of police view.
“It’s a modern form of slavery,’’ said Susan Goldfarb, executive director of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County, a program run in partnership with the district attorney’s office. At least once a week, the center receives a referral about a local child being used sexually to make someone else money. “This is a huge industry,’’ Goldfarb said....Nationwide, there are at least 100,000 children being exploited for paid sex, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
“A lot of Americans don’t think it is a problem here,’’ said John Shehan, executive director of the exploited child division of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. “It is happening in mainstream America. The only way not to find it is simply not to look for it.’’

Spain 'busts child pornography network' 8 October 2010 - Police have arrested 57 people over child pornography allegations in Spain, including business owners and local police officers, the authorities say. Those detained in recent days include a gardener who had filmed relatives aged seven and 14 in sexual poses.
