Alan Dershowitz sued in Prince Andrew sex abuse case  7 January 2015

Lawyers representing a woman who has alleged Prince Andrew and law professor Alan Dershowitz had sex with her when she was a minor are suing Mr Dershowitz for defamation.

The lawyers accuse Mr Dershowitz of mounting a media assault on their reputation and character.

The development comes a day after he began legal proceedings to clear his name.

Both Buckingham Palace and Mr Dershowitz deny the claims.

On Monday, Mr Dershowitz filed papers at a court in Florida, where the case is being heard, to contest what he described as "absolutely outrageous claims".

The former Harvard law professor has asked for his name to be removed from documents which accuse him and Prince Andrew of having sexual relations with Virginia Roberts, known in court as Jane Doe #3, who was under the age of consent in the US at the time of the alleged incidents.

In media interviews, Mr Dershowitz accused Ms Roberts' lawyers, Paul Cassell and Bradley Edwards, of "unethical" behaviour warranting disbarment.

The pair said their reputations had been damaged by such comments and that they were seeking damages.

In response, Mr Dershowitz said he was "thrilled" to be sued as it would give him an opportunity to disprove the two....

Documents filed in a Florida court last week allege that Ms Roberts was sexually trafficked by Epstein, who forced her to make herself available for sex to "politically connected and financially powerful people"....

Ms Roberts claims she was forced to have sex with the prince on three occasions - in London, New York and on a private Caribbean island owned by Epstein - between 1999 and 2002, when she was under age according to US law.

Epstein and Prince Andrew were formerly friends and the pair were photographed meeting in December 2010, after the tycoon had served his prison sentence.

The prince later had to apologise for his friendship and stepped down as the UK's special representative for trade and investment.

Buckingham Palace has said the sex claims against the duke lack "any foundation"....

Prince Andrew Sex Scandal Lawsuit Has High Legal Stakes

Michael Scherer  Jan. 7, 2015

....At issue is whether federal prosecutors have a legal obligation under the 2004 Crime Victims Rights Act to consult with victims of crimes during plea negotiations, even when settlements are reached before formal charges are filed. If a court eventually finds that they do, lawyers for four alleged victims of Jeffrey Epstein hope to throw out a plea deal he signed in 2007, allowing the prosecutors to seek new charges against him, and possibly others.

The roots of the case begin in 2005, when Florida police began investigating claims that Epstein was paying underage girls for sex at his West Palm Beach home. The investigation was later handed over to a U.S. Attorney, after investigators uncovered evidence that more than a dozen girls may have been victimized by Epstein.

After contentious negotiations, the Justice Department agreed to a deal with Epstein that required him to plead guilty to two state charges, including a single count of solicitation of minors for prostitution, to register as a sex offender and to serve a short jail sentence. Epstein also agreed to assist his victims in filing civil suits against him for the harm he had done. (Epstein later settled a civil suit filed by Virginia Roberts, the self-described “sex slave,” who has accused Prince Andrew and Dershowitz. Roberts’ initial filing in her 2009 civil suit included the claim that Epstein had required her to be sexually exploited by his “adult male peers, including royalty, politicians, academicians, businessman” and others.)

In exchange, the U.S. Attorney agreed to drop any further prosecution for the sex crimes, for either Epstein or the people who had allegedly helped him to recruit and pay the girls. The agreement also said that “the parties anticipate that this agreement will not be made part of any public record,” an unusual condition for such a criminal plea.

The outcome of the case shocked several of the victims, who felt blindsided both by the timing and the leniency. In the months that followed, two attorneys, a Florida trial lawyer named Bradley Edwards and a former federal judge named Paul Cassell, who is also a victims’ rights advocate and law professor, sued prosecutors for failing to properly notify the victims of the case, which they argued was required by the Crime Victims Rights Act. “This will send the message that federal prosecutors can’t keep victims in the dark about the plea arrangements they are making,” Cassell tells TIME about the rationale for the lawsuit....http://time.com/3658851/prince-andrew-jeffrey-epstein/

Prince Andrew sex allegations: Jeffrey Epstein 'the most dangerous sexual predator America has ever seen', lawyer's letter claims

Prosecutors believed that Epstein 'pressurised witnesses' to hide the truth about claims that he procured underage girls for sex  Roisin O'Connor   Wednesday 07 January 2015

Jeffrey Epstein "may be the most dangerous sexual predator the [US] has ever seen" according to claims in a recently revealed lawyer's letter, as it emerges that the FBI allegedly possesses "secret documents" about the American billionaire that could provide evidence for under-age "sex slave" accusations against him.

Epstein is accused of forcing a 17-year-old girl to have sex with Prince Andrew, Duke of York – a claim Buckingham Palace has denied. The reported FBI documents are said to show that Epstein controlled under-age girls who could provide evidence about the claims....

The Times reported that a letter released by the court last year showed Brad Edwards, Ms Roberts’s lawyer, telling the US attorney’s office that Epstein "may be the most dangerous sexual predator that the country has ever seen".

Dated July 2008, the letter continued: "The evidence suggests that for at least four years he was sexually abusing as many as three to four girls a day.

"He is a sexual addict that focused all his free time on sexually abusing children, and he uses his extraordinary wealth and power to lure in poor, underprivileged little girls and then also uses his wealth to shield himself from prosecution and liability."....

PRINCE Andrew spent time with several young women and controversial film director Woody Allen while staying with paedophile friend Jeffrey Epstein in the United States, it has been claimed.

At least five girls were spotted going into Epstein’s New York mansion during Andrew’s 2010 visit, it has been claimed.

American Virginia Roberts, 31, has claimed she was forced to have sex three times with the Duke of York when she was 17, which in Florida is below the age of consent.

In explosive court papers she claimed she was recruited as a 15-year-old, turned into Epstein’s “sex slave”, and paid cash to sleep with his rich and famous friends.

It’s claimed Allen, 79, who caused outrage when he began a relationship with his young stepdaughter, Soon-Yi, in 1992, was one of the few male visitors to Epstein’s plush pad.

Neighbours say he arrived just before a Sunday lunch with Soon-Yi, 35 years his junior and now his wife, and the pair spent more than an hour inside.

Allen’s adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, has accused him of sexually abusing her as a child — a claim Allen denies.

Andrew, 54, stayed with the shamed Epstein, 61, for four days in December 2010, shortly after the billionaire financier had finished a jail sentence on child prostitution charges.

Epstein was convicted in 2008 of soliciting an under-age girl for prostitution and jailed for 18 months....

....It is known Epstein and Andrew regularly holidayed together - from weekends at Balmoral and Sandringham, to trips to New York.

Epstein was, the source told The Times, 'a big part of [Andrew's] life' - and pictures of the Duke surrounded by women thanks to the financier seem to have been par for the course.
