Cardinal George Pell denies allegations of abuse after reports of Victoria Police investigation

2/19/2016
Cardinal George Pell has vehemently denied allegations of abuse, in a statement issued in the wake of media reports that he is being investigated by Victoria Police.

In response to a Herald Sun report that a Victoria Police taskforce was investigating abuse allegations against him, Australia's most high-profile Catholic said the allegations were "undetailed" and had not been raised with him.

A statement from the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney also said allegations of abuse that were raised 15 years ago were "without foundation and utterly false"....

Cardinal George Pell won’t be asked about Victoria Police inquiry
The Australian February 24, 2016
Cardinal George Pell is not expected to be questioned by a royal commission over allegations being investigated by police that he was involved in the sexual abuse of boys over several decades.

The publication of the allegations on Friday night provoked a storm of reaction. The cardinal, who vehemently denies the claims, called for a public inquiry into the “maliciously timed” leak, allegedly by Victoria Police.

Cardinal Pell, Australia’s most senior Catholic and who now manages the Vatican’s finances, is due to give evidence to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse next week. But several legal and church sources said they did not expect him to be questioned directly by the commission’s lawyers over the alleged abuse.

The commission’s Letters Patent, signed by the Governor-General and which establish the confines of its work, say it “is not required … to inquire … into a particular matter” that is subject to another criminal investigation....

A 'slave' who claims he killed his 'master' in self-defence was stabbed and sliced by his dominating partner during a ritualistic devil worshipping ceremony.

Henry Rose, 59, pleaded not guilty to murdering his controlling partner Drew Dax, formerly known as Andrew Barratt, during an appearance at the Melbourne Supreme Court on Monday.

Mr Dax, 44, was found with a knife in his hand after being stabbed multiple times with two different blades in the couple's Caulfield North home on January 11, 2015.

The court has heard that the two had been involved in a string of violent confrontations during their 28 year relationship - one so serious that the 44-year-old master had been charged with assault, the Age reported....

Police were called to the couple's apartment in Elwood, south of Melbourne's CBD, in 1989 after Mr Dax entered a trance-like state and demanded Mr Rose kneel before him.

According to reports, Mr Dax, who was playing the role of Satan, used a kitchen knife to slice his slave's forehead and stab him in the hand as dramatic 16th century church music played.

Mr Dax was charged with assault and placed on an 18 month community based order, despite Mr Rose insisting that he wanted to withdraw his complaint....

Marie Black gets life term for child abuse

28 September 2015      Norfolk

Marie Black, Michael Rogers and Jason Adams preyed on children aged under 13

A woman at the centre of a "gruesome" child sex abuse ring which passed children round "like toys" has been given a life sentence.  Marie Black, 34, of Norwich, was convicted at Norwich Crown Court of 23 charges, including rape and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.  Victims were abused at parties and may have been offered in raffles....

The charges related to five young children over a 10-year period. Michael Rogers, 46, from Romford, north east London, was found guilty of 14 counts, including cruelty, rape and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. Jason Adams, 44, from Norwich, was convicted of 13 similar counts.
Both were sentenced to 24 years.

The severity of the sentence means Marie Black has become one of the UK's most notorious paedophiles.
Yet still she cries her innocence. She sobbed quietly and occasionally shook her head as her sentence was read out. Judge Nicholas Coleman said he had "had enough" of legal argument from her barrister and went at it both barrels....
All three had denied the charges against them, with Black accused of 26 counts and found guilty of 23.
"The offences included adults conspiring to rape children at so-called sex parties....

Lifting the lid on Australia's child sex abuse
By Marie McInerney Melbourne, Victoria
27 September 2015 Australia
For decades, Peter Blenkiron remained silent about the abuse he had suffered at age 11 at the hands of his Catholic Christian Brother teacher.

Earlier this year, Mr Blenkiron relived the horror of his school days, telling an inquiry into child abuse about how he would be pressed against the wall at the back of the classroom while his teacher physically and sexually abused him, with the other students ordered to look away.

"If there was no sexual abuse after the belting, then you knew you'd had a good day," the 53-year-old told a hearing of Australia's landmark Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse....

Over the past two and a half years, six commissioners have held 32 public and 4,000 private hearings at sites across the country, from an outback orphanage run by the Sisters of Mercy to one of Australia's most prestigious schools, Geelong Grammar, once attended by Prince Charles.

It has documented abuse by teachers, priests, nuns, foster carers and fellow students, and this year, extended its investigations into sporting bodies and the entertainment industry.

It will make recommendations on how to improve laws, policies and practices to prevent and better respond to child sexual abuse in institutions.

Commission's work so far
Confirmed 12,000 allegations of abuse relating to 3,500 religious and state institutions
    Referred 727 matters to police....

It is too early to judge whether or not the Royal Commission will meet survivors' expectations, Ms Courtin says.

Her research shows survivors want to tell their stories and have them publicly acknowledged, to hear the truth from institutions about what happened, to be compensated for the long-term impact on their lives, and for those in senior positions who concealed abuse to be held accountable.

"They want the bishops and others who have covered up crimes to be criminally accountable," she says. "That's high up on the list."....

Three Universities Rescind Bill Cosby’s Honorary Degrees
September 28, 2015 by CNN Wire

Bill Cosby’s stunning fall from grace appears far from over.

In the latest setback over his sex assault allegations, three colleges in recent days have rescinded honorary degrees awarded to him years ago.

Fordham University in New York and Marquette University in Wisconsin announced last Thursday they had pulled the degrees given to the comedian to honor him. Then, on Monday, Brown University in Rhode Island said that it will do the same....

The fallout from the controversy over the sex assault allegations has been swift. Reruns of “The Cosby Show,” his landmark 1980s sitcom, have been pulled from the airwaves, and other projects and tour dates have been scrapped.

Scientists prepare to exhume bodies at Dozier School for Boys in the Florida panhandle, Dozier School for Boys survivor Captain Bill Nelson speaks out for first time

Scientists prepare to exhume bodies at Dozier School for Boys in the Florida panhandle
03/27/2013 By Carson Chambers MARIANNA

....Wards of the defunct Dozier School for Boys, children, are buried in the Marianna, Florida graveyard.  Ground-penetrating radar revealed nearly 50 unmarked graves that the state never detected.
"Like a sorority or a fraternity, everything was closed-mouth," said Bryant, talking about his town.
Bryant, 79, grew-up in Marianna with the silence in the woods.  He heard the hushed stories of boys who were beaten, tortured, or worse:  Disappeared.

He says his town was complicit in keeping these secrets.  "Nobody knew anything or was going to tell you anything," he said. Bryant tells a story he heard about Dozier boys running away at night.  He says a group called the "Dog Boys" would wait for them in the woods. "The dogs would about tear them to pieces and they would holler and yell," he says.

"How many?  What happened to them?  Were there crimes committed?" asked U.S. Senator Bill Nelson standing atop Boot Hill on Wednesday.

Now, after nearly a century of quiet, Nelson, University of South Florida researchers and a Tampa Bay family searching to bring their loved one home, may have made enough noise to answer these questions. They are pushing for a massive exhumation of an unknown number of bodies.
"We were uncovering what was clearly grave shafts," said USF's Dr. Erin Kimmerle.

Her team of anthropologists have spent months mapping the Boot Hill Cemetery.  Their work turned up nearly 20 more graves than the Florida Department of Law Enforcement originally documented.  They have asked family members of missing boys for DNA samples to help them identify remains.
"If there were crimes committed, remember the statute of limitations never runs out on murder," said Senator Nelson.  Now a court order sits on a judge's desk.  A signature would mean the USF team would return to the site to begin work....

Dozier School for Boys survivor Captain Bill Nelson speaks out for first time Captain Bill Nelson says he was beaten, assaulted
03/29/2013 By Carson Chambers

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. ....Nelson is speaking out for the first time about the two-and-a-half years he spent at the Dozier School for Boys. Just a skinny 11-year old, he was sent away for a crime he was later exonerated of.
"I was raped over there as a kid, and there were several boys raped.  Anything we spoke out about, we went to the White House," he said. It's a story many Dozier boys never lived to tell.

"A lot of boys didn't make it. They weren't strong enough to make it," said Nelson.
...."Sometimes at night you could hear the screams," said Nelson.
It’s a small building where the temperature drops inside and paint peels off the walls and where Nelson remembers being tortured. "Sometimes you stayed two or three days in chains and they beat you and you know, some of them made it. Some of them didn't," he said.

What do you think happened to them?  "Well," said Nelson, "they were beaten to death.
Soon the Dozier graveyard, known as Boot Hill, may become a crime scene.
"We'll work together with the Medical Examiner and do skeletal autopsies basically, which then allows for identification through DNA,” said USF’s Dr. Erin Kimmerle....
