Thirty Years of Publishing and Advocacy – Neil Brick

The 2025 Online Annual Ritual Abuse and Mind Control Conference Presentation –  Sunday August 17, 2025

Thirty Years of Publishing and Advocacy – Neil Brick

Reprinted with permission from https://ritualabuse.us/smart-conference/2025-conference/thirty-years-of-publishing-and-advocacy-neil-brick/

Neil Brick will discuss how and why he created the SMART Newsletter.  He will talk about how the newsletter and the field of ritual abuse have changed over the years. He will discuss the importance of advocacy and public education.  Ideas for the future growth of the field will be discussed.

Neil Brick is a survivor of ritualistic abuse. His work continues to educate the public about child abuse, trauma and ritualistic abuse crimes. His child abuse and ritualistic abuse newsletter S.M.A.R.T. https://ritualabuse.us  has been published for over 30 years. http://neilbrick.com

Parts of this presentation may be triggering and may describe abuse or violence. All accusations are alleged.

In March 2025, SMART celebrated thirty years of printing newsletters.  The newsletter has been published bi-monthly since March 1995. In July 2025, we published our 183rd issue.  Originally the newsletter was only mailed to subscribers.  In March 1996, we began publishing the newsletter online and we started our email address smartnews@aol.com .  In August 1998, we had our first ritual abuse conference in Connecticut. We have had yearly summer conferences since then. This is our twenty eighth conference.

I originally started the newsletter because I believed no one was fully covering the issue of secretive organizations and groups involvement in the abuse of others. There were a few newsletters covering the topic of ritual abuse in the United States and Australia during the 1990’s. Most of those stopped publishing during that decade.  Survivorship started publishing their newsletter in 1989.  Their publications of their bi-monthly notes and twice a year journals are still being published today.

Ritual abuse crimes began being fully uncovered in the 1980’s. One of the first books describing these crimes was Michelle Remembers by Michelle Smith and Lawrence Pazder, MD. Though the book has been viciously attacked by child abuse skeptics, the reality is that the facts in the book were vetted by the publisher:

Two experienced interviewers journeyed to Victoria and talked to Dr. Pazder’s colleagues, to the priests and the bishop who became involved in the case, to doctors who treated Michelle Smith when she was a child, to relatives and friends. From local newspaper, clergy, and police sources they learned that reports of Satanism in Victoria are not infrequent and that Satanism has apparently existed there for many years. Satanism in Western Canada flourished in many areas with activities far more ominous than some of the innocuous groups now found in parts of the United States who claim some connection with Satanism.

The source material was scrutinized. The many thousands of pages of transcript of the tape recordings that Dr. Pazder and Michelle Smith made of their psychiatric sessions were read and digested; they became the basis of this book. The tapes themselves were listened to in good measure, and the videotapes made of some of his sessions were viewed. Both the audio and video are powerfully convincing. It is nearly unthinkable that the protracted agony they record could have been fabricated.@ (A NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER@ pages xi B xiii).

Dr. Alison Miller also verified the existence of ritual abuse in that area of Canada.

“I can add more about Michelle Remembers. Larry Pazder practised in the same city as me, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I knew him slightly and once shared a case of a teenage boy with DID caused by abuse by a babysitter. It was in Victoria that I encountered my first four survivors of organized abuse, and they were all members of the same coven of a Satanic cult, the Serpents. They shared past and (then, early 90s) current memories of abuse by that cult. Some of their parents were leaders in the cult. They remembered rituals at the same locations that Michelle reported (in particular, Ross Bay cemetery.)…I have no question that he and Michelle were talking about very real events.”  (correspondence with the SMART newsletter).

The notes from the publisher and Dr. Miller’s complete statement is available online at https://ritualabuse.us/ritualabuse/articles/michelle‑remembers/

The McMartin Day Care Case was the one of the first major day care cases to uncover ritual abuse crimes in detail. There has been a great deal of misinformation produced about this case by skeptics of ritual abuse crimes.  This case began in 1983 and ended in 1991.

(See Chronology of the McMartin Preschool Abuse Trials https://ritualabuse.us/ritualabuse/articles/mcmartin‑preschool‑case‑what‑really‑happened‑and‑the‑coverup/  )

In February 1984 seven defendants were arrested and charged with 207 counts of child molestation and conspiracy. On April 2, 1984, the L. A. Times reported that students at McMartin had been fondled, raped, drugged, photographed nude, forced to witness animals being slaughtered and threatened to keep silent. In May 23, 1984, the prosecution filed 93 new counts. The indictment count reaches 208, involving 40 alleged child victims. On August 8, 1984, Prosecutor Lael Rubin announced that the seven McMartin teachers committed 397 sexual crimes, in addition to the 115 for which they already faced charges.

On January 7, 1985, Doctor Astrid Heger testified that she found physical evidence of sexual assaults on 33 of the child witnesses. On June 11, 1985, Judge Bobb ruled that child witnesses will not be allowed to use the new statute allowing child victims of abuse to testify over closed circuit TV. The prosecution immediately announced that it would not call any of its remaining witnesses. Only 5 of those 28 were willing to testify at all and then only by way of closed-circuit TV. Six other witnesses dropped out because Rubin said they could not withstand even the protective TV procedure. The remaining 16 witnesses had been withdrawn by their parents after they saw the effects of lengthy cross‑examination on the early witnesses. This reduces the number of witnesses from 43 to 13 and, as a result, the reduces the number of counts.

On January 17, 1986, before the case is assigned to a trial judge and after losing 28 witnesses because of brutal defense tactics during the pretrial weakened the case, District Attorney Ira Reiner decides to drop charges against five of the seven defendants. Reiner tells parents that Betty Raidor has enough remaining counts to face trial, but says he thinks she would not fit in prosecuting mother and son, Peggy and Ray Buckey. The two are prosecuted on 79 counts and 20 counts, respectively, of child sexual abuse.

In August 1987 the first victim witness, a girl now age 12, takes the stand as a witness for the prosecution. October 12, 1987, Judge Pounders dismisses 27 of the 100 counts. Some parents again refuse to let their children testify under adverse conditions.

December 10, 1987, a retired former police investigator Paul Bynum is called to testify at the trial by prosecutor Lael Rubin. The morning he was to appear, a juror’s home was burglarized and Bynum’s testimony was rescheduled for the next morning. Bynum was found dead by his wife at 5:45 that morning, shot in the head by a .38 caliber pistol. Bynum had conducted the first search for evidence at the preschool site in 1984 at the request of Ray Buckey. ANone of the half dozen people questioned who were close to Bynum could think of any reason why his involvement in the case might have driven him to suicide, reported Kevin Cody of the Easy Reader in Manhattan Beach. “Paul was kind of a worrier,” said Stephen Kay, a deputy district attorney and friend of the Bynum family, “but there was no hint of suicide. He was very upbeat about his wife and new daughter, both of whom he adored.”

In January 18, 1990, the jury returns its verdict in the first McMartin trial. Peggy and Ray Buckey are acquitted on 52 counts. The jury deadlocks on 13 counts, all against Ray Buckey. The jurors are polled and say they believe molestation took place at the preschool but that the prosecution did not prove the case. They expressed disappointment at not hearing more from the children.

In April and May 1990 Tunnels are found under the foundation of the McMartin Preschool building by a team of Archaeologists headed by Dr. Gary Stickel. Ground Penetrating Radar recently developed by the U.S. Army is used to define the location of anomalies underground. Three segments of tunnel, one over 45 feet in length with a 9 x 9 room area are found exactly where the children said they were. District Attorney does not use the evidence because of time and money constraints and the fact that they would have to start a new investigation of their own at the site as they did in 1985. The discoveries are widely reported in the news. (Archaeological Investigations of the McMartin Preschool Site, Manhattan Beach, California

(http://web.archive.org/web/20010123212200/members.cruzio.com/~ratf/McMartin.html/    )

In July 27, 1990, on their 15th day of deliberations, the jury tells the judge they are hopelessly deadlocked on all 8 counts. The judge declares a mistrial. Juror L. I., a 64 year old treasury department employee said, “I don’t know how you could get 12 people to be unanimous in this case. There are too many unanswered questions. Too much time has passed.” Again because of money and time constraints, DA Ira Reiner decides not to ask for a third trial of Ray Buckey. The first two prosecutions have consumed over $15 million and seven years of court time. He is under tremendous political pressure because he has failed in prosecuting the case.

In the early 1990’s accounts of government mind control began to be discussed. One of the most well-known of these was the “The Greenbaum Speech.” This was a presentation at a conference called Hypnosis in MPD: Ritual Abuse by D. C. Hammond Ph.D. in 1992. It was Adelivered at the Fourth Annual Eastern Regional Conference on Abuse and Multiple Personality, Thursday June 25, 1992, at the Radisson Plaza Hotel, Mark Center, Alexandria, Virginia. Sponsored by the Center for Abuse Recovery & Empowerment.  D. C. Hammond was a well-trained psychologist. His credentials are cited in the link below this section.

Hypnosis in MPD: Ritual Abuse

“Okay. I want to start off by talking a little about trance‑training and the use of hypnotic phenomena with an MPD dissociative‑disorder population, to talk some about unconscious exploration, methods of doing that, the use of imagery and symbolic imagery techniques for managing physical symptoms, input overload, things like that. Before the day’s out, I want to spend some time talking about something I think has been completely neglected in the field of dissociative disorders, and that’s talking about methods of profound calming for automatic hyper‑arousal that’s been conditioned in these patients.”

“Here’s where it appears to have come from. At the end of World War II, before it even ended, Allen Dulles and people from our Intelligence Community were already in Switzerland making contact to get out Nazi scientists. As World War II ends, they not only get out rocket scientists, but they also get out some Nazi doctors who have been doing mind‑control research in the camps.” https://ritualabuse.us/smart‑conference/2023‑conference/the‑effects‑of‑social‑movements‑on‑survivor‑support‑systems‑and‑survivor‑recovery‑neil‑brick

In March 1995 therapist Valerie Wolf and her patient Claudia Mullen testified at the Presidential Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments.

“My name is Valerie Wolf. In listening to the testimony today, it all sounds really familiar. I am here to talk about a possible link between radiation and mind control experimentation that began in the late 1940’s. The main reason that mind control research is being mentioned is because people are alleging that they were exposed as children to mind control, radiation, and chemical experimentation which were administered by the same doctors who were known to be involved in conducting both radiation and mind control research. Written documentation has been provided revealing the names of people, and the names of research projects in statements from people across the country. It is also important to understand mind control techniques and follow‑ups into adulthood may have been used to intimidate particular research subjects into not talking about their victimization in government research. As a therapist for the past twenty‑two years, I have specialized in treating victims and perpetrators of trauma, and their families. When word got out that I was appearing at this hearing, nearly forty therapists across the country (and I had about a week and a half to prepare) contacted me to talk about clients who had reported being subjected to radiation and mind control experiments. The consistency of people’s stories about the purpose of the mind control and pain induction techniques, such as electric shock, use of hallucinogens, sensory deprivation, hypnosis, dislocation of limbs, and sexual abuse is remarkable.”  (CKLN‑FM Mind Control Series ‑‑ Part 3 Mind Control Survivors’ Testimony at the Human Radiation Experiments Hearings: Valerie Wolf ‑‑ Claudia Mullen ‑‑ Christine deNicola  http://www.whale.to/b/wolf3.html )

A good articles about the research on DID and ritual abuse and the cover up by child abuse skeptics is Disinformation and DID: the Politics of Memory by Brian Moss, MA, MFT  https://ritualabuse.us/research/did/disinformation‑and‑did‑the‑politics‑of‑memory

This article contains information about now closed The False Memory Syndrome Foundation (FMSF). AIn March of 1992 the False Memory Syndrome Foundation was formed claiming to have discovered a new syndrome. “Syndrome” is a clinical term that requires certain agreed upon signs and symptoms indicative of a disorder. The FMSF definition of “false memory” does not meet these criteria:  Despite the fact that “False Memory Syndrome” remained undefined and had never been the subject of any research, the FMSF focused its early activities on influencing the media and legal system. The definition of “False Memory Syndrome” did not evolve from clinical studies; rather the purported syndrome’s description is based on the accounts of parents claiming to be falsely accused of child sexual abuse, usually by their adult daughters. (Disinformation and DID: the Politics of Memory)

The FMSF group started in the early 1990s. In the 1980s and the early 1990s, there was mixed coverage of ritual abuse crimes, some favorable coverage and some unfavorable.  By the mid-1990s, most of the media coverage about ritual abuse crimes was biased and unfavorable.

I started remembering ritual abuse memories in 1990 when I stopped using alcohol and I moved away from the area where I grew up.  I had already started a period of self exploration prior to this, meditating and working on building meditative mind states.  There was very little information available at that time. A few years later I found about Survivorship and other ritual abuse newsletters.  In SMART Issue 4 – September 1995 (https://ritualabuse.us/2008/10/issue‑4‑september‑1995/ ) I republished a copy of an interview I did with S.O.A.R. (Survivors of Abusive Rituals) in July 1993. I discussed my allegations of Masonic Ritual Abuse and my healing process at that time.  The first ten issues of SMART in 1995 and 1996 covered allegations against the Masons and the Mormons.  In 1997, we started to cover the issues of Government Mind Control (as discussed above in the Presidential Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments.)  In our seventeenth issue we have an article about Claudia Mullen.  https://ritualabuse.us/2008/10/issue‑17‑november‑1997/

A quick reference list for all of our newsletters is at https://ritualabuse.us/newsletter/back‑issues‑ordering‑form/

We also have a search engine bar at our website  https://ritualabuse.us in the top right-hand corner.

This following may be very triggering for RA/MC survivors.

In our thirty-fourth issue in September 2000, I discussed how I realized that I am an alleged survivor of mk‑ultra programming, and Illuminati programming. I had known for many years that I was a survivor of alleged Masonic ritual abuse. The last few years I had been having more memories about being experimented on in lab settings and electroshocked. While talking to friends, I had a very strong emotional feeling, like I had been hit by an incredible wind in my midsection, and I felt very disorientated. I realized that all sorts of walls had gone down in my system and that I was very confused and disorientated, like spin programming. I really knew at that moment I was Illuminati. This fits with the Masonic piece I had talked about for years.

I didn’t fully realize this until this particular moment, but I had always kept my mind open to whatever memories or feelings I had, thinking about them to see if and how they fit.

After talking to my friends, I had an incredible deal of trouble finding my way out of where I was via car and drove around lost for about ten minutes or so until I could find the highway. I realized that this was a disorientating program that I was supposed to have once I got to this layer of programming. That whole night until I fell asleep, I was terrified someone was going to come and get me or kill me because I had remembered all this. I realized this was also programming. The next day I felt a lot better, having worked through the feelings accompanying these programs. I began to work on unraveling the memories and programs that had been put in me.

I realized that I was trained by delta force programs, to kill. I had memories of being put on planes with groups of other mk‑ultra delta survivors to do certain jobs, usually to kill, but sometimes to get information. My jobs varied on different missions. Sometimes I killed but I was also supposed to clean up and/or be a lookout.

I have memories of sometimes being drugged or blindfolded or having a rope tied around me so I wouldn’t know exactly where we were going or what we were doing. It was usually dark and my vision had never been very good anyway. Missions were on a “need to know” basis.

Now I realize I am a survivor of Illuminati programming, Masonic section. The Illuminati symbols had always bothered me, they are sometimes similar to the Masonic ones and historically, I believe the groups are connected. I was also used in mk‑ultra type experiments to see how someone would react and how much pain they could take before passing out, at least on the East Coast. This fits with my extremely high pain threshold.

After having all of these memories, I felt like a huge weight had been lifted off of me. I had not had any major memories in a while. I also felt much stronger and much more confident. I am now much more aware of triggers and much more in tune with my gut feelings about what and who is and isn’t safe. This increased confidence had helped me state my needs clearer and stronger in my relationships with others. I am also a lot less afraid and terrified of the world. I think that this is due to the fact that I have worked through a lot of fear and confusion or disorientation type programming. I have increased clarity and energy because I no longer need to hold all of this inside me anymore behind amnesic barriers. (https://ritualabuse.us/2008/10/issue‑34‑september‑2000/ )

In the early 2000’s. SMART Newsletter began to cover clergy abuse issues and other cult abuse and mind control cases. Though these cases had been discussed since the 1990’s, they became well known in 2002. SMART Newsletter March 2002 – Issue 43 discusses a wide variety of clergy abuse cases including those in the Boston area.  https://ritualabuse.us/2008/10/issue‑43‑march‑2002/ These cases showed how severe abuse crimes can be covered up for decades.

One major case was described in Geoghan found guilty of sex abuse – Boy was assaulted at Waltham pool By Kathleen Burge, Globe Staff, 1/19/2002 AThe Archdiocese of Boston, which has settled 50 civil lawsuits filed by victims of Geoghan at a cost of at least $10 million, released a three‑paragraph statement saying it was grateful that a verdict had been reached….Geoghan has been accused of molesting at least 130 children since the 1960s, but he has been criminally charged with assaulting just three. Geoghan is also named in 84 civil lawsuits alleging sexual abuse. https://web.archive.org/web/20020208002253/http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/019/metro/Geoghan_found_guilty_of_sex_abuse+.shtml

In 2008, we published information on the Extreme Abuse Survey.  https://extreme‑abuse‑survey.org/   The Extreme Abuse Survey final results are online with findings, questionnaires and presentations for download as pdf‑files. More than 750 pages of documentation.

Understanding ritual trauma: A comparison of findings from three online surveys B Handout for Karriker, Wanda. (2008, November). Understanding ritual trauma: A comparison of findings from three online surveys. Paper presented at the meeting of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation, Chicago, IL.

10 Extreme Abuse Survey Findings Helpful to Understanding Ritual Trauma

  1. Ritual abuse/mind control (RA/MC) is a global phenomenon.

  2. A diagnosis of Dissociative Identity Disorder is common for persons who report histories of RA/MC. (84% of EAS respondents who answered that they have been diagnosed with DID [N=655] reported that they are survivors of RA/MC).

  3. Ritual abuse (RA) is not limited to SRA, i.e., satanic ritual abuse, sadistic abuse, satanist abuse.

  4. RA is reported to involve mind control techniques.

  5. Some extreme abuse survivors report that they were used in government‑sponsored mind control experimentation (GMC).

  6. RA/MC is reported to be involved in organized Aknown@ crime.

  7. RA/MC is reported to be involved in clergy abuse.

  8. Most often reported memories of extreme abuse are similar across all surveys.

  9. Most often reported possible aftereffects of extreme abuse are similar across all surveys.

  10. In rating the effectiveness of healing methods, therapists tend to favor stabilization techniques; survivors are more open to alternative ways to cope with indoctrinated belief systems.

The SMART conference had unfortunately attracted media attacks. We found that for the most part the media was not interested in being objective or citing the actual research we had developed over the years.

In 2009, our conference was attended by a now well known child abuse skeptic, Douglas Misicko.

Douglas Misicko has used various aliases to attack survivors. His best known aliases are Doug Mesner and Lucien Greaves (of the Satanic Temple). He did not notify the conference that he was a journalist. He and his group (The Satanic Temple and Grey Faction) has attacked many other survivor and professional groups, including Survivorship.org and the ISSTD.  His groups have also harassed clinicians, filing licensing complaints against them.  He worked with the False Memory Syndrome Foundation and has continued their work since they have closed down. SMART and others groups have successfully rebutted his false claims against DID sufferers and ritual abuse survivors.

Grey Faction, Satanic Temple and Lucien Greaves Fact Sheet:

For almost a decade Douglas Misicko using several aliases (including Douglas Mesner and Lucien Greaves) has harassed groups helping child abuse, rape and trauma survivors. He has also harassed groups providing research in support of child abuse, rape and trauma survivors.

In 2013, he and others created a group called the Satanic Temple. One part of this group is called the Grey Faction. The Grey Faction states they “invade” conferences. These conferences are provided to help and educate child abuse, rape and trauma survivors and their helpers.  https://ritualabuse.us/ritualabuse/grey‑faction‑satanic‑temple‑and‑lucien‑greaves‑fact‑sheet/

In March 2020, COVID became a global pandemic.  This changed the world interacted and presented data and research. SMART moved to online conferences in 2020.  This allowed survivors from all around the world to attend our conference. We posted our conference presentations online with their pdfs, so that all survivors could watch the videos, even if they were unable to attend the conference. We eventually moved our newsletters entirely to email and webpages, no longer printing and mailing newsletters.

In the thirty years that SMART has been in existence, we have developed one of the largest databases in the world for survivors and their supporters.

Our newsletters contain data about child abuse, ritual abuse, cults, mind control, DID/MPD, dissociation, sex trafficking and trauma.   https://ritualabuse.us/newsletter/

Recovered memories have been defined as the phenomenon of partially or fully losing parts of memories of traumatic events, and then later recovering part or all of the memories into conscious awareness. They have also been defined as the recollections of memories that are believed to have been unavailable for a certain period of time. There is very strong scientific evidence that recovered memories exist. This has been shown in many scientific studies. The content of recovered memories have fairly high corroboration rates.

A body of empirical evidence indicates that it is common for abused children to reach adulthood without conscious awareness of the trauma. There is scientific evidence in support of the phenomena of dissociation and recovered memory in Holocaust survivors.  https://ritualabuse.us/research/recovered‑memories‑and‑dissociative‑amnesia‑scientific‑evidence‑and‑accuracy‑rates/

Delineates the etiological antecedents of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and enumerates upon the scientific evidence proving the existence of DID. This paper explains the diagnostic criteria of DID, its incidence rates and cross‑cultural characteristics, present arguments to counter the idea that suggestibility may be a factor in its misdiagnosis and delineate the data that shows a clear connection between traumatic wartime experiences and dissociation and trauma and DID. It considers the historical development of the debate surrounding DID, including its increased diagnosis around the turn of the last century, reasons for its decline in diagnosis in the mid part of the last century and reasons for its increased diagnosis toward the end of the 20th century. It deliberates upon the claims made by several researchers that DID can be created in the laboratory as well as the critiques surrounding those claims. It discusses the neurobiological evidence proving the connection between DID and certain neurobiological indicators. Included is a discussion of the modern theory of iatrogenic DID and a critique of this theory. A debate about the creation of DID as a social construction and critiques of this theory are presented as well. It concludes, by presenting the argument that the research on DID shows it to be a valid psychiatric diagnosis which robustly meets all the necessary validity requirements. http://ritualabuse.us/research/did/the‑etymological‑antecedents‑of‑and‑scientific‑evidence‑for‑the‑existence‑of‑dissociative‑identity‑disorder/

Stop Mind Control and Ritual Abuse Today

SMART is celebrating our 30th anniversary.

S.M.A.R.T. ritual abuse newsletter was founded in 1995 by Neil Brick. http://neilbrick.com

The purpose of S.M.A.R.T. is to help stop ritual abuse and child abuse and to help those who have been ritually abused.  We work toward this goal by disseminating information on the connections between secretive organizations, ritual abuse, and mind control and by providing resources to survivors of child abuse, ritual abuse and mind control.

We publish scientific information about ritual abuse and trauma crimes.

We have this web site, a bimonthly newsletter, an e‑mail discussion list, and annual conferences. If you have resources with information about ritual abuse and mind control, especially information about secretive organizations, please send them to smartnews@aol.com for inclusion in the newsletter. Please note: S.M.A.R.T. has no paid employees and all money paid to S.M.A.R.T. goes toward efforts to educate survivors and the general public about survivor issues and research.

Advocacy and public education are crucial to developing a safer world for children, child and ritual abuse survivors and the entire world.  Trauma can cause severe damage to its victims, as shown by the ACE study https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/aces/about.html

We can prevent trauma, but we need to discuss it and acknowledge its existence.  Over the last thirty years, progress has been made to expose child abuse, sexual abuse and RA/MC crimes.  Many of the sources listed on the Internet are now pro-survivor and accurate.  A few biased ones, like wikipedia, which has biased and inaccurate pages which attack the reality of child abuse crimes still unfortunately exist.

Wikipedia has a long history of problems with accuracy, bias and allegations of connections to pedophilia and pornography. https://ritualabuse.us/ritualabuse/articles/wikipedia‑has‑a‑long‑history‑of‑problems

The Truth about Satanic Ritual Abuse – Wikipedia rebuttal  https://ritualabuse.us/ritualabuse/articles/the‑truth‑about‑satanic‑ritual‑abuse/

SMART recommends that people do not use Wikipedia as a source of information for child abuse or other topics, due to its potential for having inaccurate and biased information.

The good news is that there are many accurate pages now on the Internet.  Over the last thirty years, the exposure of clergy abuse, cult abuse, sex trafficking and serial pedophiles with legal consequences, has helped the general public learn about the high numbers of abuse and mind control victims.

We still have work to do.  People are still strongly affected by propaganda and mind control. We can fight this by telling the people we know how to avoid being controlled by these techniques. We need to publish more research, build more websites and use social networking to let everyone know about the realities of ritual abuse and mind control.

We have come a long way to exposing RA/MC crimes. As the Extreme Abuse Survey says: The World Will Know

Michelle Remembers - Verification of the accuracy of the book “Michelle Remembers”

Michelle Remembers

Verification of the accuracy of the book “Michelle Remembers” by Michelle Smith and Lawrence Pazder, MD from the book “A NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER” pages xi – xiii”

“Dr. Pazder’s credentials are impressive. He obtained his M.D. from the University of Alberta in 1961; his diploma in tropical medicine from the University Liverpool in 1962; and in 1968, his specialist certificate in psychiatry and his diploma in psychological medicine from McGill University. In 1971, he was made a fellow of Canada’s Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is a member of three Canadian professional associations and of the American Psychiatric Association as well. He practiced medicine in West Africa and has participated in medical task forces and health organizations. He has been chairman of the Mental Health Committee of the Health Planning Council for British Columbia. A member of the staff of two hospitals in Victoria, British Columbia -the Royal Jubilee and the Victoria General-he is in private practice with a group of five psychiatrists. His professional papers include a study of the long-term effects of stress upon concentration-camp victims.

It is nearly unthinkable that the protracted agony they record could have been fabricated.”

I can add more about “Michelle Remembers.” Larry Pazder practised in the same city as me, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. They remembered rituals at the same locations that Michelle reported (in particular, Ross Bay cemetery.) Although I disagree with Dr. Pazder in interpreting such things as the appearance of Satan literally (such groups use elaborate staged deceptions), I have no question that he and Michelle were talking about very real events. At the time, there was no knowledge of such organized abuse and no understanding of how to treat survivors. Dissociative disorders were not understood, so when Michelle “became” a 5 year old child, Dr. Pazder probably didn’t understand that it was an inside part or that there might have been more such parts. He also made the assumption that the events she remembered had happened only for the year when she was five, but they were probably ongoing for years, since a parent took her to those events. I have no knowledge of whether the cult left Michelle alone after she was treated by and then married Dr. Pazder, but judging by the group’s behavior when I was treating survivors (see Chapter 1 of my book Healing the Unimaginable), I would guess that the perpetrator group would work hard on making sure she remembered nothing more.

Sexual Abuse in Day Care: A National Study – Executive Summary – March 1988 – Finklehor, Williams, Burns, Kalinowski “The study identified 270 “cases” of sexual abuse in day care meaning 270 facilities where substantiated abuse had occurred involving a total of 1639 victimized children….This yielded an estimate of 500 to 550 reported and substantiated cases and 2500 victims for the three-year period. Although this is a large number, it must be put in the context of 229,000 day care facilities nationwide service seven million children….allegations of ritual abuse (“the invocation of religious, magical or supernatural symbols of activities”) occurred in 13% of the cases.” The authors divided these cases into “true cult-based ritual,” pseudo-ritualism” with a primary goal of sexual gratification and ritual being used to intimidate the children from disclosing and “psychopathological ritualism” the activities being “primarily the expression of an individuals obsessional or delusional system.” https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/Digitization/113095NCJRS.pdf

The Dark Tunnels of McMartin – Dr. Roland C. Summit
“The opportunity came in April, 1990 with permission from the new owner of the preschool to search for the tunnels before he demolished the building and redeveloped the property. These soiled but solid citizens managed to find what the district attorney had disclaimed: solid, scientific evidence that someone had not only dug tunnels under the preschool, but also had taken the trouble to try to undo them. The results of this definitive excavation are described in meticulous detail in the 185 page Report of the Archaeological Excavation of the McMartin Preschool Site by E. Gary Stickel, Ph.D., the UCLA archaeologist commissioned to do the study….Dr. Stickel’s report (p.95) concludes: There is no other scenario that fits all of the facts except that the feature was indeed a tunnel. The date of the construction and use of the tunnel was not absolutely established, but an assessment of seven factors of data all indicate that it was probably constructed, used and completely filled back in after 1966 (the construction date of the preschool). This age assessment has also been corroborated by the consulting Geologist for the project, Dr. Don Michael.”

Analysing Aaronovitch: has the scourge of ‘conspiracists’ become one himself?, The Rochdale and Nottingham cases have revealed widespread sexual abuse of children based on satanic practices. Yet the children are still not believed.

- Seen But Not Heard
The Rochdale and Nottingham cases have revealed widespread sexual abuse of children based on satanic practices.  Yet the children are still not believed.

- Analysing Aaronovitch: has the scourge of ‘conspiracists’ become one himself?
"There was indeed a cultural revolution during the 1980s: it was not triggered by trans-Atlantic folly but the bodies of children. For a dozen years, Britain had been scalded by about 30 deaths of children due to abuse, and by the evidence of official inquiries. Unnoticed in life, in death they became household names. The pivotal cases for social work in the 1980s were Tyra Henry, Kimberley Carlisle and Jasmine Beckford. These children’s fate alerted health and welfare professionals to what became known as ‘child abuse’. "

"The mid-80s, then, was the time when British institutions were forced to pay attention to the oppression of children in a new way.  Priests and pagans, teachers, pop stars politicians and parents were sexually abusing children then as now, and weren’t properly investigated."

- Analysing Aaronovitch: a sceptical narrative
"I made a documentary about the Nottingham case in 1990. This is the Nottingham timeline: in 1987 children were received into care from an extended family with a long history of inter-generational sexual abuse, including criminal convictions."

Analysing Aaronovitch: a sceptical narrative
Beatrix Campbell 17 June 2015

Prosecution and conviction rates for sexual crime are lamentably low in the UK. If David Aaronovitch cares about 'genuine abuse', why isn't this what worries him more? Part Two.

The first tests of the new era were in the northern county of Cleveland, (my book on this case, Unofficial Secrets, is being updated for electronic publication this year), and in Nottingham.  They combusted over medical signs in Cleveland, and children’s stories of abuse in Nottingham. Actually, these crises were triggered by police resistance to the medical signs and stories, and their reluctance to investigate them....

I made a documentary about the Nottingham case in 1990. This is the Nottingham timeline: in 1987 children were received into care from an extended family with a long history of inter-generational sexual abuse, including criminal convictions. Once safe, these children began talking to their new foster carers about their lives, their parents’ sexual abuse, witch parties and their worries about other children. Their evidence, and the testimony of foster parents and social workers was heard in wardship court proceedings in 1988.

Mrs Justice Booth, in her judgement, described the culture of the abuse as 'satanic' - her word. In July 1988 three Appeal Court judges endorsed that conclusion and Sir Stephen Brown, in an unusual public judgement, reported in the press on 19 July 1988, said that children 'had been subjected to gross sexual abuse at the hands of adults, sometimes at parties, where full intercourse had taken place in the presence of a number of adults and other children'....

In 1989 ten adults were convicted on the basis of evidence that children were being ‘sadistically abused and tortured and being forced to watch other children suffering in a similar way.’ They were forced to eat excrement and drink urine, watch other children forced into sexual intercourse ‘over a prolonged period and in an organised manner’. These words are taken from the Director of Social Services report on the case - and the controversy - to Nottinghamshire County Council  on 7 November 1990.

It wasn’t social workers or foster carers who decided that there was ‘satanic’ abuse, it was the judges in 1988....

The Director’s report followed my Channel 4 Dispatches documentary on the Nottingham case in October 1990; it scrutinised the JET report and interviewed the academic John Newson who gave JET its line on fantasy, confabulation, and staff brainwashing children. However, when I asked whether he had actually talked to the foster carers or social workers, he admitted that he had not. Unlike Aaronovitch, Waterhouse or Nathan, my documentary interviewed social workers, and foster carers. I also interviewed adults in the family who had been convicted and who corroborated the children’s evidence.

The 7 November 1990  report by the Director of Social Services was the last official word: it rejected the JET report and explained the social workers view of the abuse the children had endured: ’we cannot say’ whether ritual events were ‘true’ or whether children ‘were deliberately misled into believing they had happened’. The Director agreed with the workers directly involved  that ‘the significance of ritual overtones is not necessarily linked to a belief system but that it provided a mechanism for manipulating vulnerable children.’ His report accepted the social workers’ definition of ritual abuse as activities and symbols ‘used to frighten, intimidate and confuse the children.'....

There are corroborated cases. More recently clinicians, most famously Bessel van der Kolk in the US, have studied the neurology of trauma and amnesia among survivors of sexual abuse. The eminent Harvard therapist Judith Lewis Herman writes, ‘On the one hand, traumatised people remember too much; on the other hand, they remember too little.’  For Herman, ‘The conflict between knowing and not knowing, speech and silence, remembering and forgetting, is the central dialectic of psychological trauma’....

Analysing Aaronovitch: has the scourge of ‘conspiracists’ become one himself?
Beatrix Campbell 17 June 2015

David Aaronovitch claims ‘unbelievable’ notions about child abuse that ‘bewitched’ professionals decades ago are echoed in the VIP historic abuse cases. Where is his evidence? Part One.

....So let’s consider his argument:

Ritual abuse

At the end of the 1980s ‘unbelievable’ theories that had been accorded respectability within professional and clinical circles wafted across the Atlantic, ‘the occult flame was kept alight beyond the shores of America,’ he told listeners; then professionals (doing what they do) read books and went to conferences. Ideas were planted in ‘surprisingly fertile soil,’ in that ‘hothouse for new intellectual plants’ none other than ‘the professional conference.’

They were possessed. They saw the movie Sybil, they read ‘Michelle Remembers’. Who knows, like millions of others, they might have seen Rosemary’s Baby or The Exorcist.

We don’t know which, if any professionals were possessed by these texts: Nor does Aaronovitch. But that doesn’t matter. I know many practitioners, from police officers to foster carers, doctors and social workers  involved in many of the celebrated and contested child abuse cases of the past quarter century, including those singled out by Aaronovitch, and I’m not aware that any had any of this stuff in their heads. I’ve consulted other journalists, and they’re not either.

Isn’t reading books and going to conferences part of what professionals and experts do? Learn? Share ideas? Aaronovitch traduces normal and necessary activities as sinister. One of Aaronovitch’s witnesses, the journalist Rosie Waterhouse, mapped ‘the progress of an idea’: UK and US professionals, especially Californians, were  crossing the Atlantic and conferring; her nugget: ’the conference circuit.’

After a conference at Reading in 1989, she said, the witch hunt broke out in Britain. Waterhouse is wrong.

There was indeed a cultural revolution during the 1980s: it was not triggered by trans-Atlantic folly but the bodies of children. There was public and professional outrage, workers were castigated for a perceived failure to intervene and - most specifically with Jasmine Beckford in 1985 - to heed the child and what she might have to say about her family life. In the mid-80s sexual abuse emerged as a category of concern.

In the second half of the decade, local authority staff had an unequivocal statutory duty  to investigate when they had ‘reasonable suspicion’ that a child was being abused. The law states - then and now - not that they ‘may’ but that they ‘shall’ intervene. It was and is their statutory duty.

That, not Californian phantoms, was the context in which professionals were mandated to act....

The mid-80s, then, was the time when British institutions were forced to pay attention to the oppression of children in a new way.  Priests and pagans, teachers, pop stars politicians and parents were sexually abusing children then as now, and weren’t properly investigated.

However, what provoked controversy and crisis then was not only what we were learning about childhood adversity, but whether the professions, particularly the police, and our political culture could stand it, respond appropriately, and withstand the inevitable reaction.

There was no great wave of state piracy, social workers kidnapping kids; and despite the new knowledge and the legal duties of professionals, there was resistance to evidence that became entrenched. The implications were woeful. According to Susan Creighton, an expert on recorded abuse, statistics on the numbers of children registered as being at risk of harm (including sexual abuse) rose most significantly between 1985 and 1986, reaching a peak of 0.65 children per 1000 in 1987, and declining thereafter.

Though changes in registration criteria after 1990 make direct comparisons difficult, sexual abuse registrations fell dramatically up to 2002, and settled at a relatively low level between 2002 and 2014. There was no panic or hysteria, no wave of children being removed either rightly or wrongly from their parents.

The Rochdale and Nottingham cases have revealed widespread sexual abuse of children based on satanic practices.  Yet the children are still not believed. Beatrix Campbell, presenter of  the recent Dispatches programme on the Nottingham case, explains why

Transcript of Conference Presentation

Neil Brick is a survivor of Masonic based Ritual Abuse. He is the editor of S.M.A.R.T. – A Ritual Abuse Newsletter. His topic is: Fighting the Spin : The Truth about Child Abuse Cases

The address for S.M.A.R.T. is P O Box 1295, Easthampton, MA 01027 USA, E-mail: smartnews@aol.com

In the last 20 years, many child abuse and ritual abuse cases have been made public. Almost all of these have been subjected to media campaigns and spin by organizations and researchers skeptical of the existence of ritual abuse. These groups have done whatever they can to make sure that only their view on the topic is heard and that ours is not allowed to be made public.

We discuss this at our website on a page called “False memory syndrome proponents tactics” http://ritualabuse.us/research/memory-fms/false-memory-syndrome-proponents-tactics/

This presentation will briefly review some of the more famous child abuse cases and present the perspective of the victims of these crimes, not the perspectives of the alleged or convicted perpetrators or those defending them. Information for this presentation is taken from the following websites.

Day Care and Child Abuse Cases
This page has information on the McMartin Preschool Case, Michelle Remembers, the Fells Acres – Amirault Case, the Wenatchee, Washington Case, the Dale Akiki Case, the Glendale Montessori – Toward case, the Little Rascals Day Care Center case, Fran’s Day Care case, the Baran case, the Halsey case and the West Memphis 3 case. http://ritualabuse.us/ritualabuse/articles/day-care-and-child-abuse-cases/

Another interesting case that won’t be discussed today is at:
Fran’s Day Care http://ritualabuse.us/ritualabuse/articles/frans-day-care/

The presentation will close with a discussion of the blacklisting of several ritual abuse pages at Wikipedia and the deletion of information at Wikipedia from the victims perspectives of these crimes. http://ritualabuse.us/ritualabuse/articles/ritualabuse-us-blacklisted-by-wikipedia/

As many here know, Wikipedia and other Internet pages are controlled by those skeptical to many of the well proven ritual abuse and child crimes and those posting information at Wikipedia from the victim’s perspectives have been harassed by editors at Wikipedia or even banned from Wikipedia.

SMART has been advocating that survivors and co-survivors do not use Wikipedia as a resource until these articles are made more balanced and fair.

Michelle Remembers

The book “Michelle Remembers“ by Michelle Smith and Lawrence Pazder, MD was one of the first account of ritual abuse crimes. Because of its influence, it has been one of the most attacked accounts, even being called “fiction” by some. Those defending the book have been attacked online.

In “A NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER” pages xi – xiii” in the book, the publisher Thomas B. Congdon, Jr clearly shows how the accounts of the book were scrutinized and how experienced interviewers talked to several people involved in her childhood. Dr. Pazder’s strong credentials were also discussed in detail.

And I quote “Two experienced interviewers journeyed to Victoria and talked to Dr. It is nearly unthinkable that the protracted agony they record could have been fabricated.”

Yet, this is ignored by skeptics and attempts to get this information onto certain Internet pages has been blocked. Skeptical accounts from a Pagan website and an article from a tabloid instead are considered fact by skeptics attacking the article. One article skeptical of Michelle’s stories states her father’s opinion that her abuse didn’t happen apparently backs the fact her story was false. Of course, perpetrators and other family members often do deny that there is abuse in their families.

In a research study called “Sexual Abuse in Day Care: A National Study – Executive Summary – March 1988? – Finklehor, Williams, Burns, Kalinowski “The study identified 270 “cases” of sexual abuse in day care meaning 270 facilities where substantiated abuse had occurred involving a total of 1639 victimized children….This yielded an estimate of 500 to 550 reported and substantiated cases and 2500 victims for the three-year period. Although this is a large number, it must be put in the context of 229,000 day care facilities nationwide service seven million children….allegations of ritual abuse (“the invocation of religious, magical or supernatural symbols of activities”) occurred in 13% of the cases.” The authors divided these cases into “true cult-based ritual,” pseudo-ritualism” with a primary goal of sexual gratification and ritual being used to intimidate the children from disclosing and “psychopathological ritualism” the activities being “primarily the expression of an individuals obsessional or delusional system.” http://www.eric.ed.gov/PDFS/ED292552.pdf

McMartin

The most famous child abuse and ritual abuse case in the United States is the McMartin preschool case.

This case has had books and even a movie written about it. Unfortunately, almost all of these were all from a skeptical perspective and the victims’ perspectives of the case have been hidden from the public for years. The case is written off by many skeptics as a case of false accusations, often using the propaganda term “witch hunt” to describe the case. Skeptics paint the case as being started by a mentally ill women and then they attempt to build a case of false memory implantation.

Yet, there is much more to the case than this. For one of the initial parents that brought the case to the police, Judy Johnson, there is no evidence she suffered from any form of mental illness when she brought the claims to the police after a doctor stated her son was sodomized and later her son named one of the workers at the pre-school as his perpetrator. There were allegations that she was later harassed after these allegations were made and that these and her drinking alcohol may have caused her later psychological problems.

The case went on for many years and was very complex, with hung juries and mistrials. yet it is written off by skeptics as simply being a case of false accusations.

At the press conference following the trial, 9 of the 11 jurors who agreed to be interviewed indicated that they believed the children had been molested, but they felt that the evidence presented did not enable them to state beyond a reasonable doubt who had perpetrated the abuse.” (Behind the Playground Walls – Sexual Abuse in Preschools from an L A Times article)

One of the major skeptical books about the case was written by the Eberle’s. The Eberle’s are alleged to be former child pornographers. Our website has a lot of information on this case.

Fells Acres – Amirault Case

Another famous case, that occurred in the Eastern United States is the Fells Acres – Amirault Case. This is another case written off by skeptics as a miscarriage of justice. It was even used recently against a Democratic politician running for Senate in a recent election in Massachusetts. Yet, members of both the Republican and Democratic parties have backed the conviction of Gerald Amirault. Even his victims as adults have gone public in the last decade to verify that they were abused. And Amirault lost every appeal he had. This case has been spun by a variety of media outlets.

The prosecutor of the case, Hardoon, stated “in Amirault, the majority of the female children who testified had some relevant physical findings, as did several female children involved in the investigation who did not participate in the trial. The findings included labial adhesions and hymenal scarring of the sort present in avery small percentage of non-sexually abused children.”

One of the trial transcripts states “All nine children testified in a broadly consistent way…The children testified to numerous instances of sexual abuse. Some of the children testified that they were photographed during this abuse, describing a big camera with wires, a red button, and pictures which came out of the camera. The children testified that the defendant threatened them and told them that their families would be harmed if they told anyone about the abuse….The Commonwealth also presented a pediatric gynecologist and pediatrician who examined five of the girls who testified…She made findings consistent with abuse in four of the girls.”

The victims stated in “Mass. Victims Fight Commutation Plea” By Leslie Miller, Associated Press Writer “During counseling meetings as a child, I would speak of a tall man touching me and taking pictures of me,” Phaedra Hopkins, 20, said at an emotional news conference. “So many times, Mr. Amirault hovered over me, touched me and hurt me and committed many disgusting acts of abuse.” ….“This family raped me, molested me and totally ruined my life,”said Jennifer Bennett, who was 3 1/2 years old when she started at Fells Acres. “We weren’t coaxed. We weren’t lying. We’re telling the truth and we always will,” said Bennett, 22. “I was there. None of you were there. We weren’t coaxed, nor were we ever ever ever brainwashed.”Brian Martinello, 21, said he was sexually abused by Amirault. His mother, Barbara Standke, claims her son came home from the day care with sores on his genitals and other people’s underwear. “I think it’s an absolute disgrace to let anyone out of prison for such a disgusting crime,” Martinello said.

A Republican governor decided against the commutation of Amirault’s conviction: Governor explains Amirault decision Says she needed to ‘live with myself’ By Douglas Belkin and Frank Phillips, Globe Staff, 2/21/2002 Swift said. ”I concluded after that review that the jury and the Supreme [Court] decisions should be upheld and that under the commutation guidelines commutation was not warranted,” Swift said…Swift said her staff conducted ”a more exhaustive review of all of the legal aspects” than the (parole) board did.

West Memphis 3

The last case I will discuss is the West Memphis 3 case. This case has been in the media for many years. Some skeptics paint the case as three innocent boys that were caught up in the hysteria of a small town and convicted simply for the reason that they were different than others in their town. But is this really the case? The trial transcripts and other accounts show something different. The case included a confession of one of three boys. Some state the confession was coerced, others that it was not. One of the boys, Echols, bragged to others that he had killed the three young boys. Echols had a history of mental illness with allegations of violent acts toward others. Yet, none of the skeptical accounts I have read discuss these. A second boy, Baldwin, supposedly told another boy he had committed the murders also. Yet, this is written off by skeptics in apart because the other boy was an alleged drug addict and was not seen with Baldwin. Of course, none of this proves that Baldwin’s discussion with the boy did not occur. There was also evidence that the crime was committed as an occult crime. The case is very complex and ongoing and I recommend that people visit our website for more information.

Wikipedia

Wikipedia is one place where skeptics of most child abuse and ritual abuse crimes control the content of the related pages.

In July, 2009, Wikipedia blacklisted the following important websites on ritual abuse: http://abusearticles.wordpress.com http://extreme-abuse-survey.net http://ritualabuse.us http://endritualabuse.org

People had been trying to get balancing information into Wikipedia articles on ritual abuse and child abuse topics without success. The first web page listed above had copies of trial transcripts of several cases. Once these web pages were blacklisted, almost all of this information was deleted from Wikipedia.

People had also been trying to get information about the Extreme Abuse Surveys into Wikipedia and other websites, also without success. The Extreme Abuse Surveys have even been attacked by members of supposedly sympathetic organizations. Those unfamiliar with this excellent preliminary study may want to visit their website. Over one thousand survivors replied to this survey to discuss extreme abuse and ritual abuse crimes.

There are allegations that Wikipedia got its financial start from an organization called Bomis, which it is believed got much of its money from X-rated pornography.
See http://eassurvey.wordpress.com/2010/04/22/wikipedophilia-wikipedia-child-abuse-misinformation-clergy-abuse-suit/

There are also allegations that Wikimedia (Wikipedia’s parent company) contained child pornography. http://eassurvey.wordpress.com/2010/06/26/pedophiles-find-a-home-on-wikipedia/
Articles on this can be found at foxnews.com and childlaw.us online.

Other problems with Wikipedia include anonymous editors (meaning that anyone with any bias may be editing Wikipedia) and articles that are not always fact checked. Even their general disclaimer states:

WIKIPEDIA MAKES NO GUARANTEE OF VALIDITY http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:General_disclaimer

“Please be advised that nothing found here has necessarily been reviewed by people with the expertise required to provide you with complete, accurate or reliable information.”

“However, Wikipedia cannot guarantee the validity of the information found here. The content of any given article may recently have been changed, vandalized or altered by someone whose opinion does not correspond with the state of knowledge in the relevant fields.”

“Wikipedia is not uniformly peer reviewed; while readers may correct errors or engage in casual peer review, they have no legal duty to do so and thus all information read here is without any implied warranty of fitness for any purpose or use whatsoever.”

Yet, Wikipedia ranks very high in search engines, even with all of these serious problems with its information. I recommend that survivors find more accurate sources of information and not use Wikipedia.

The real question is why these and other cases are simply painted as miscarriages of justice when at times there is overwhelming evidence these crimes were committed, even when those convicted lost all of their appeals. This is obviously part of the backlash against child abuse survivors. Some people in the world do not want to believe that these type of things happen in the world. Yet they do.

The important thing is to make sure that the victim’s sides of the story are heard. To get their versions of the story out to as many people as possible, so that those responsible for these crimes will continue to be held accountable and so that when children are raped in day care and other settings they will be believed. Make sure you read all of the above websites, familiarize yourself with all of these cases and tell everyone you know about these crimes.

We need to be our own advocates. If enough of us speak up, we will be heard.
